When people buy a pump they want a small pump with high flow.
If there was a pump with anemone proof intake nobody would buy it because it would be much bigger and there would be a roar on the forums because it will clog the intake with algae and detritus fast.

#ATOLL, Your opening post was hilarious...what a funny way to tell the story. Those that haven't understood the lighthearted post probably don't spend much time in the Comedy aisle at a Blockbuster. Those exist still, right?

I had a Tunze 6095 that when it was off my sixline wrasse would go in it behind the propeller. I didn't want to put on a guard as to impede the flow so I put it on a Tunze Safety Connector and one of those 12v batteries used for kiddie cars. The pump was never off again.

I thought it was humor as it started off Mr Tunze, as if, a real complaint would start off that way.lol but spot on.
I thought it was my Brit sense of humor failing here.
I think most people recognised the tongue in cheek humour of the first post but the thread quickly seemed to turn into something else with some genuinely believing it was a poor design and others that didn't see a problem. So most of the replies, including mine were not replying to the first post but rather those that came later with the more serious tone.
It still sounds like it was either a freak accident or more likely it had been sucked through the side vents and into the impellor, in which case any pump could have done it.

We don't include a guard on the 6040 solely because the flow is the maximum this pump can produce, any guard would greatly reduce it, we instead use a safety which detects an impact and stops the pump, this works for larger fish and fingers but a very soft bodied invert could still be harmed, I would consider this something unlikely to happen, but it is not impossible.
Tmc announced, I'm going to call it a knock off 6040, recently and it does have a guard by the looks of it but equally large side slats. I'm guessing it won't have the inbuilt stop mechanism described above though.

I laughed at original post. Love a little humor. As a newbie to hobby I first learned things climb into these pumps. I thought the stream was too strong for this. As a consumer I'm glad you wrote in about the product. Some of my favorite products require tweaks to get more functionality out of them. I enjoy this site for the lighthearted humor. Keep calm and reef on. Likely to get sued for saying that. Someone probably owns that saying. Ha ha.
