Howdy,

Today I ran into a weird issue.. I replaced my color changing resin for the probably 10th time in my ro system and I couldn't get it to produce 0tds water. I let it run through 5 gallons nothing.. I took the chamber apart packed the resin and added more another gallon no luck. I couldn't get lower than 6 tds. I checked the tds after membrane and it was 6 so the resin was having no impact.. I let it run for about an hour and it's at 2 tds now however, after membrane is ~ 5.

Does resin go bad without changing colors? Air exposure?

If you have an inline tds meter it could have gone bad.
DI resin if kept sealed should last quite a while. If exposed to C02 it will turn color and expire. I have never heard of color changing resin not turning color when expired.

I put a different batch of resin in and it worked to 0 tds right away. Could you pack resin too tight?

Where did you buy the resin, and was it in a sealed airtight bag where no light can get to it?

From my reading, this is why BRS packages theirs in those vacuum sealed mylar bags.

It came in the static free sealed bag - from Amazon. It took extra measures to ensure it was sealed after each refill. Folding the static free bag into one zip block and than that into another. Maybe some air got into it somehow??

Agreed - my only thought would be I packed it too tight and the water was struggling to get through

Could be, but I don't think thats actually possible. When I get the refill from BRS I tamp it down, and push as much as humanly possible into the canister. Never had that issue, and I always have a bit left over in the single use bags. I'm wondering if you didn't put enough in, and you had channeling going on?

Only because i have some left over, I'm always wondering if I put enough in. Thinking for the extra 10$ I might just buy the prepackaged refill canister.

I took a utensil this time and was jamming it in. Even accidently pushed the stopper deep into the canister.. I struggled to get it out. So I know it was VERY packed.

If you had water coming out the product line, then water was getting through the resin.

Did you refill the canister from the same bag, and now its 0?

I used a different batch of resin so not the same bag. The water is coming through this batch much faster than the expired stuff

I have gotten a refill bag from BRS that wasn't vacuum sealed anymore, and it hadn't changed color. Could not get my TDS down to 0 from 1(I get 1 out of my membrane). Called up BRS and they sent me out a new bag, but never explained why it was exhausted, or if it was expired even though it was still it's original color.

Exactly what is happening to me. I saw randy say that if some co2 gets in there it's GG so I assume that. I'll be ordering in smaller quantities

Stinks because you don't get as good a price

I've used some about a year past the date from BRS. No issues, I think as long as it's airtight it's OK.

I pulled a "bonehead move" a couple of months ago, changed DI resin had same results as you mentioned. Called BRS and went back over my steps, turns out I had canister in upside down. DUH...

I'm using an RO buddie so the canister is a little different.. I'm trying to gather the funds to buy a brs canister however DOS just set me back a month lol

If can you squeak by awhile, BRS has super deals on RO units and parts throughout the year - IMO they make the best for our hobby.

Why do I feel like it just passed?! Ugh

Yeah I can wait - I'll buy a 1 pound supply which will fill me twice or 3 times which is enough for 6 months probably

Yea they had their Black Friday deals but since it's an "in house" product they promote it quite often. Hang in there, they'll be on sale shortly.
