Dialing in dose

Hello @Anirban. I have been extremely busy since we last spoke. I checked my alk tonight when i finally got a chance. It was 8.74 more than the 8.5 so I lowered the dose 5 mls. I am going to be moving my daughter the next couple of days. Do you think that is enough of a decrease or should i decrease it 10 instead of 5 mls. Almost forgot ca is 435 and mg is 1410.

You can lower it by 10 ml. How much you are dosing currently?

Lowering it 5mls took it to 215.
5 more would be 210.

Hello @Anirban How have you. I got back a couple of days ago from moving my daughter. I got three new space save water jugs from walmart. I can mix 10 l of each component. Excited not have to mix as often. Here are my numbers after i got back. Do you think they are still balanced.

Your Alk is fine. The Mg and Ca is a bit on higher side but its fine. Hwz the tank doing?

Tank is doing well. I need to do some cutting back on a couple of birds nest colonies that have gotten too large. I have some stn on my indigo stage. I think that is either from all the alk swings before we started dailing ing the tank or shading from the birds nest. I am going to cutt of the stn parts as soon as my glue arrives. I probably need to start paying more attention to my phosphate and nitrates. I didnt want deal with those till tank was dialed in.
I like the alk where it is but do you think i should decrease dose a little to bring down ca and mg? I was thinking maybe 5 or at most 10 mls.

Yes, sure you can. When you cut back your bird nest you reduce the need of Ca, Mg and Alk in the tank a bit. So you can adjust accordingly if you want.

That is one of the rasons i havent cut them back yet. I did not want mess things up when we were dailing in the components.

Hey @Anirban it is not doing very well. I had turned down the alk to about 205 like we talked about. Then the fun started. On July 12 i knocked over some rocks and crushed a couple of my large sps colonies. One was a total lose the other i salvaged a few frags from. Alk started to rise i tried lowering dose a few mls at a time it did not help. I had the alk down to 180 yesterday and alk still went up to 200ppm. I lowered alk dose to 150 mls yesterday and it still went up 205 ppm tonight.
Here are my params for tonight.
Alk 11.48
Ca 455
Mg 1470
Some of my sps are not looking so great.

Ohhh man, slowly bring it down to 100ml and keep it there for couple of days and then if still needed then 80 ml. Your Alk consumption will drop alot after the incident so you need to lower it down. Good luck.

@Anirban yeah i been pretty frustrated after that. I was just getting the tank in a good place. As i drop dose to 100 mls do you think 10mls a day is slow enough or shkuld i do 5mls.
