Did i get scammed by the online reef store?

Bought an euphyllia “yellow banana torch).

This is How it looked like on the website

And this is How it looked like when i Got and a few days later

As you can see, not yellow at all.

Should i open a dispute with PayPal?

You did. False advertisement. Contact vendor and see how they want to handle. If they are unwilling then file PayPal case for item not as described and be prepared to defend with screenshots of product, anywhere they mention the color of the coral, communications with seller showing them being unwilling to resolve, etc

Torches do look like that in person. Just not that one. It’s a highly edited picture where black eggcrate looks blue, through the uses of filters, lenses, and saturation settings

would this be a fitting dispute or should I add something to it?:

I ordered a 'Yellow Banana Torch' coral online from Dreamcorals, but the coral I received was a completely different type. Instead of the yellow color that was described, the coral was a light green with dark ends. This is false advertising, as the coral does not match the description or the price. I contacted the store as soon as I received it several days ago, but have not received a reply.

Keep in mind this will probably go to a PayPal employee who is not familiar with coral. I would incorporate their terms an the end - since the seller is not responsive and unwilling to assist, I would like to request PayPal to issue a refund due to an incorrect item being sent which is drastically different from what you were attempting to buy.

To show you are reasonable I would also say you are willing to return the item if they provide a return label and the package materials, and instructions, as this is a live item and you do not have the appropriate shipping materials on hand or the experience to do this alone

I have a gold torch that looks completely banal under white & stunning under full blue.
Add an orange filter & you get the full ridiculous effect.
Did they note spectrum or filters in photo description?

What does yours look like with your orange filter on your lens?

No note about spectrum or filters

Orange lens filter is the default for images taken under blue light

They probably use a professional DSLR camera which has built in increased saturation built in

My Nikon cameras call it "Vivid" mode. I don't know what Canon or Sony call theirs

That said and asked doesn't mean that you were not taken. I feel that high end torch buyers are asking to be taken, in general. I don't think that, it's a feeling

I agree, you got hosed. But one thing I noticed...Your lights came through with a purple background and theirs is more blue. Have you tried to alter your spectrum to see if if "enhances" the color? I just watched a BRS Video where different spectrums brought out completely different colors. Yellow is such a rare color in this hobby.

You mean like going to a frag swap and all 100 booths are running pure actinic spectrum. The coral will never look like that in your tank. Meh... Scammed? I dunno. 1) the coral trade name means absolutely nothing. 2) the coral will look different depending on the lighting.

That said, did they misrepresent what you were buying by using filters or image manipulation? More than likely, but show me a vendor who doesn't to one degree or another. The whole industry is shady.
