Did I just kill my tank?

Just saw you said you don’t have any sps corals? I don’t think you would have had much of a problem anyways.

I’d crack a beer and rest now.

Lights are up and everything appears OK. GSP on top is open, pulsing xenia is open, clove polyps seem fine. So it looks like I may be fine.

I have a lot to do this morning - but I'll do some water testing later in the afternoon.

Hana says ALK is 8.1 - which is much lower than it normally is - which is about 10 MOL - but it's within range.

Thanks all, I think everything will get back to normal soon.

I'll test other parameters later... can't catch up my day from yesterday's mess.

Should be fine you can do a small water change tmr if your parameters swing.

seems odd to me, but my calc is down to 300, my po4 is .107 and alk now is 8.8

all other params seem OK

I was expecting calc to be up not down given the overdose

Is it possible calc was low in your new water?

Today, I've started dosing again, and yes it is possible the calc was low in my 15 gallon WC.

Although I used the LFS that I have used in the past for the massive change, it isn't the one I normally use that I trust much more. It was a proximity issue for me. I don't mind making the trip to my "preferred" LFS, but I didn't want to waste any time.

Anyway, I'm dosing again, and heading out to the "good" store to restock on water.

There could have been 'some' precipitation In your tank with the original problem - but that wouldn't totally explain it. Before jumping back in with more chemicals:

1. How do your corals look - if good - perhaps less of an urgent situation/
2. Are any other parameters off (it would be odd that calcium would be that low without low salinity, etc
3. Have you double/triple checked your tests?

Hope this helps

all corals / fish seem to be doing very well - tested alk twice, calc twice (two different kits),

ph is fine - tested twice - temp never varied more than 1 degree throughout the whole mess - never have had nitrates, nitrites, or nh4 - all still zero

so only calc and phosphate are odd - po4 test zero (or next to zero) with salifert, then phosphorus ULR hanna showed up as 35ppm phosphorus translates to .107 po4 -

I never get the salifert test for po4 to register anything (unless I threw some fertilizer in the test vial)
