Did music die?

Music isn't dead. Heartless, maybe, but not dead.

My older sister figured out as a teenager that IF she brought her little brother along, she was much more likely to be able to go to concerts. So... from about 1983, I started going to concerts. Divorced family, Mom was in KC, Dad was in LA, we split our time between them.

I saw Henry Rollins front Black Flag at an Elk's lodge in Stockton CA , would have been 1984... man, that was some show. Probably ruined me for other kinds of music. I was 14. Still the best show I've ever seen.

Sis really liked the girl groups... The Runaways were over by then, but saw Joan Jett (many times), The GoGo's, the Bangles, Linda Ronstadt, Heart...

Got to see Queen, Kansas, Journey, Floyd, Rush, ZZTop, Fleetwood Mac, ELO... many others. Lots of big names, but I always kept running back to Punk... The Ramones, Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Heck I've even been to several Green Day shows over the last decade. I'll always be a punk at heart.
You had me at Black Flag. Love Dead Kennedy’s and Misfits. Old school Green Day is great. Can’t stand anything they’ve written in the last 20 years. I was also a huge Queen fan growing up. Freddie Mercury was such a great songwriter. Even his solo stuff before his death was amazing. And funny thing is, I was just rocking out to Mr Blue Sky.

Kept looking for new music today and ended up going back to Bob Marley. I think I’ll go back to my reggae roots for awhile. Peter Tosh, Steel Pulse, inner Circle, Black Uhuru.

Oldies station.....I think I hear it at the SUPERMARKET! I think I've even heard Phish as elevator music.

Anyone in there 50's and 60's notice 70's music being used in commercials targeted to us? A popular Fleetwood Mac song comes to mind.
You mean Green Manalishi .. prob not, that was before they went main stream

Bowie gave us a diamond before he left. From 2015 but he is a legend.

only have to block the images of him and jagger dancing in the streets video

Ive just listened to Echoes by Pink Floyd and that is just 25 minutes of pure unadulterated pleasure, words cannot describe how good that song is. musically and lyrically.

Pretty sure I've heard 'Tusk' in commercials from time to time.

If you didn't catch it, Stevie Nicks went into the 2019 Hall of Fame as a solo artist. Seventy years old, and STILL rocking that joint. Well worth watching (despite Janet Jackson being there... Hey, The Cure was there, too!)

I knew I was old the day I rode in a hotel elevator and noticed that the song playing was a Muzak version of 'Beth' by Kiss. Wow. I would have never believed it if I hadn't heard it myself.

I never really got on with Bowie but I can see why he is in the legend category
I like half of his stuff. Musically, he was all over the place. His last song he wrote (well video released) was hard to watch. It was almost sent from his grave. Hard to listen to the lyrics and not feel them.

Oh ya that pop song one

It's true, they talk to the audience like we are simpletons! The same environmental or #metoo type message is broken down into little 5 year old sound bytes that I assume is what they think we can understand and then they barrage us with it for a full hour. The in-between dialog is so weird that one has to wonder what planet these people come from. The big problem I see with kids today is that they have very poor social skills. When I was in high school if you tried to act to cute or lied to people or simply did not focus in on peoples body language, you would pay the price by getting into a lot of fights. These were lessons that served me well through out life as real people are not like TV characters. Most kids today have so little un monitored interaction with other kids that they end up lacking these skills. When I was 14 I would say to my Dad on a Saturday morning at 8 am that I was going out to play and my Mom would say be back before dark and if not call us. That was it! I was off for the day, sometimes 10 miles from home by some river bank fishing, sometimes riding bikes down a mountain and at other times just listening to music with a group of friends. Today we put GPS trackers on our kids when we send them to school and we have to know exactly were they are at all times.

No, it's not simpletons, the correct word used to describe the public viewing/listening audience is "Sheeple".

Re: kids these days, I couldn't agree with you more. But there are still some places that honesty & good neighbors prevail. We moved to our new home last year - 30 miles west of Minneapolis. Small town population of 3000 and one of the first things we noticed - kids playing in the streets, riding bikes, playing baseball (not looking at cell phones) generally being kids. On top of that, when outside doing chores they offer to help, a couple of the neighbor kids shoveled my driveway & sidewalk after a heavy snowfall - before daylight.

When we in the suburbs kids were on their phones, loud & obnoxious & some were vandals trashing folks yards.

I have zero regrets moving and love living in a rural city. There's still hope for society.

somebody think car commercial ,back in black

The entire 'Delicate Sound of Thunder' album... preferably on a good vintage setup. I know people like the new digital stuff, but to me, it's just got no soul. I've got an old Sansui G8700DB, with a pair of Sansui SP2500's on A, and a pair of 1st gen Bose 901's on B. Warm, full... analog.

My fish hate it when I get to playing music :P

I prefer his Ziggy stuff to his Bowie stuff if in honest.
Sometimes I wish I was older so I could have followed the careers of some of the greats, You lot who grew up with Floyd don't know how lucky you are (musically I mean)

Now although I am young I have to agree with you, I prefer things on vinyl, it might not be as clear but it has a certain charm.
