Any tips to beating it? Seems like UV is one item heavily suggested?I vote prorocentrum as well. That’s what I had (the second time).
This is small cell dino and would be amphidinium.
AgreeProrocentrum I believe
@taricha
No UV for those. Check this review of methods by @ScottB :Any tips to beating it? Seems like UV is one item heavily suggested?
I should mention, my nitrates/phosphates were at 0 (classic) I have since raised them...nitrates at 20ppm (working to get down to 5-10ish), phosphates at 0.02ppm. I also have been dosing microbacter7 and no water changes in an attempt to make my tank dirtier. I have not done any blackout with lights, but I did turn off fuge light for several days.

I am confused now . Does everyone agree that this is Prorocentrum? After looking at the ID guides further , I believe it is Prorocentrum. I can try to get better pics/video at a higher magnification if that helps. No UV for those. Check this review of methods by @ScottB :

A Dinoflagellate Treatment Guide
As the title suggests, this is intended as a short guide on what to do when you suspect dinoflagellates are trying to overtake your system. It is an attempt to boil down the protocols discussed across 11,000 posts in this "Are you Tired" thread...www.reef2reef.com
What tells you that it isn't Prorocentrum? I am not sure I see any sign of a beak, but will try to get a higher magnification shot of these guys.
i would do everything vetteguy says- its worked for me after battling a while
good luckWell prorocentrum and amphidinium have similar solutiom methodsI am confused now . Does everyone agree that this is Prorocentrum? After looking at the ID guides further , I believe it is Prorocentrum. I can try to get better pics/video at a higher magnification if that helps.
The link you provided talks about UV as a solution for Prorocentrum. Maybe I am missing something (probably). Any further clarification is greatly appreciated, thank you!
I thank @taricha for bringing that wonderful document into this world@_Jake_Simek_ posted this and it was incredibly helpful for me. I am a total noob but maybe they are Prorocentrum
Spot on, pretty much exactly what I did. I also did a blackout to get them into the water colum (at least that was my thinking) while running a UV and that was the once and for all final kicker for me.Well prorocentrum and amphidinium have similar solutiom methods
Get nitrate and phos up
Dose:
Microbacter⁷
Pods
Phyto
Nëophos
Nëonitro
Feed more
Less water changes
Daily cleaning
Personally I had either one of those two. It was so so bad and I did this and made it out.

I’m currently doing this right now for amphidinium. I’m using different nitrate and phosphate but it’s workingSpot on, pretty much exactly what I did. That's the only thing I didn't do. I couldn't afford a uv. Took 3 months to get out. Then I got GHA now I dose pods I culture every other day with phyto and have a diatom bloom. I think I'm in a weird cycle. But I'm hoping the diatoms are the last of it.Spot on, pretty much exactly what I did. Oh man, I went through a similar thing with cyano, Dino, and gha. This hobby is ruff sometimes. Im Finally getting back to normalThat's the only thing I didn't do. I couldn't afford a uv.
