Oh man, I went through a similar thing with cyano, Dino, and gha. This hobby is ruff sometimes
Hey I'd rather diatoms than dinos or gha. Everything eats them and I have an endless supply of pods to work on it lol. I have 6 ten gal tanks with Apocyclops, Tisbe, and tig pods that I sell locally along with 12 gallons of phyto I make weekly so whatever the hobby throws at me I hope to be prepared.

I got into the hobby because I wanted a Mandarin Dragonette and looked into what would be needed. 8 months later I finally bought one yesterday. Dinos set me back months.

That’s awesome! What does it take to culture the pods? Yea the Dino’s set me back a lot as well.

Really not much.

So I feed tetraselmis phyto. It's a larger cell than nanno but doesn't have that hard shell nano does and it's easier for pods to eat.

I feed sparingly spirulina and meaty fish Flakes but the biggest hidden weapon... banana peel. Just toss a large single banana peel in the culture and let algae grow. Water will turn green and peel will turn black. This will feed them for weeks. Little air pumped in and its almost self sustaining. I can Harvest every 2 days gallons of pods.

It's called the lazy banana peel method. Makes the water dirtier so you need to rinse the pods when doing this but either way, super nice and now that i can do this I can house a Mandarin

That is super interesting actually!

I am confused now . Does everyone agree that this is Prorocentrum? After looking at the ID guides further , I believe it is Prorocentrum. I can try to get better pics/video at a higher magnification if that helps.
The link you provided talks about UV as a solution for Prorocentrum. Maybe I am missing something (probably). Any further clarification is greatly appreciated, thank you!
When in doubt, I always ask @taricha

Prorocentrum often need a blackout to get them really swimming (and through the UV). That was my experience anyway. They were done in 36 hours.
