It is an amazingly common theme: Dinos after Chemiclean. I don't have enough fingers and toes to count the number of times I have heard this. Must be something with the erythromycin killing off some competitive bacteria allowing the dinos to take off. That, or people mistaking dinos for cyano which seems like a stretch.

It happened to me. Had cyano real bad so I decided to use chemiclean. About a week after the treatment.... BAM! dino outbreak. Stringy snot everywhere! Never again!

If I load a google search tab and type in "di" the first hit is the dinoflagellate battle bible. It was written by several prophets over the years with @taricha and @dwest carrying the torch forward these days. Let me know and I can link you the dino ID guide from taricha.

Was a bit frustrated when I got home yesterday. Dino's on the sandbed were looking a bit more stringy. That variety is prorocentrum (validated by microscope). Guess I'm dealing with two type since some is showing up on the rocks now too.

I dosed some more Microbacter7 last night and will only have about a 4 hour light cycle today.

Procentrum prefer sand but can also attach to rocks. Only large cell amphidinium are almost exclusively sand bound.

Either way, the treatment is the same for all but amphid.

Ok, my tank is already "dirty". NO3 > 20 pmm. Phos at .14. I did hook up my 25 Watt UV, DT to DT. It's small, but better than nothing I guess. I will continue dosing Microbacter7 and keep elevated nutrients.

Good nutrient levels for the fight. How big is display again?

Today's test results:

Mg: 1365
Ca: 485
Alk: 8.5
Nitrate: 14ppm
Phosphate: .9 ppm

I wasn't too fond of any of the Silica solutions available on Amazon so I bought the more expesive SpongExcel from Bightwell aquatics today. Will start dosing when it arrives tomorrow.
