Dino's?

If I have to break down my tank. Is there any way to transfer coral without transferring the Dino's? Any dips that work against these things?

Peroxide and freshwater dips will kill the dinos on contact. But, some corals don't handle peroxide or freshwater dips very well. I've done it on some palys, acans, florida ricordia mushrooms, a finger leather, and a duncan with some success. I don't believe SPS will handle those dips, though. Coral Rx, etc... type dips aren't reported as having any type of impact on dinos.

When I was playing with some dinos... Under a microscope, the dinos seem to die almost immediately when I instilled a drop of freshwater onto them...hydrogen peroxide eventually stopped all movement as well, but it did take a little longer (the peroxide mixed with the water on the slide therefore wasn't completely all peroxide).

I may have to get a microscope and play with dips. I have reef dip, Bayer, coralrx, and one other that is eluding me. Are Dino's bacterial? Wonder if some fish cures may work against them as a dip. The only thing I've had success in not killing with rodi dips are zoa's.

I will order that 9 watt UV and get it running, maybe try to slow water flow through it a bit to increase contact time.

On another note, I have not had a snail, crab, or any other death in 6-9 months. Probably the longest I've not had a dead snail.

Just my $.02

Had a Dino issue and read all the usual articles/advice. I actually began dosing vibrant @ 1ml per 10 gallons twice a week. Turkey baste the rock often and sucked the gunk off the sand during water changes. After not making much headway I was able to modify the innovative marine desktop flow through uv sterilizer in my tank. Took about about a full week, but dinos are gone. Little bits of other algae are still around but the cleanup crew is getting after it. Best 60$ I spent. If the uv housing is destroyed I. Two years I’ll just buy another one.

I was wondering about those eBay ones that are just the bulb and ballast, drop in style. I could remove my filter sock and drop it in the hole there, would be in the rear sump then. Just don't trust that extremely cheap stuff made over seas without any real UL or IP rating by unknown manufacturer.

Bio diversity i went a little far. So i live on the water. I collected samples of sand, mud, and rocks from 3 different bays near me. Dumped all in a separate tank, did heavy doses of water glass. Added dry rock to this tank, after 50 days added this rock to my dt.

also added garf bag o bugs.
I have no idea if this extra steps helped or not.

Just had a dino outbreak in my tank, hopefully caught it pretty quick as it is pretty isolated. Lights are off wish me luck!
