Noticed some discoloration on one of the female anthias in QT this morning right after I dosed API GC. So, metro is already in the water column.

Appears to just be on the one side. I do not see discoloration on any of the others.

I’ve had them in QT for about 1.5 weeks and this is the second round of GC. No other meds or treatment have been given.

Could just be a scuffle with the other anthias, but I would keep a close eye on it. An acriflavine bath wouldn’t hurt... and keep carbon, water, and antibiotics at the ready in case you need to switch gears...

Thanks, I actually have ruby reef rally on hand, and I believe it has acriflavine. I also have metro, kana, and furan-2 on hand with focus to bind them. The trick will be trying to bind them to a food it will eat. I'll look at doing the bath this afternoon after work. Plenty of water and carbon on hand as well. Thanks!

Binding it to food wouldn’t help much in this case, you would actually just treat the water column.

But, since you’ve already dosed GC twice I would try to let that run for at least two days first if possible. Then, you can remove it with a big water change and carbon and switch to the antibiotics if needed.

If the discoloration gets worse, or she starts breathing rapidly or stops eating... you would want to remove the GC immediately or remove the affected fish to its own non-medicated QT and re-assess.

The ruby reef rally would work as acriflavine, you can prepare a separate bath in a 5g bucket (making sure it’s well-aerated and temp matched to QT). 75-90 minutes, keeping a close eye on temperature and for any signs of distress... and return to QT.

Acriflavine

I gave it a ruby reef rally bath at ~3:30pm for 90 minutes. I used one teaspoon per gallon, salinity, ph, and temp matched. Aerated with air pump and air stone for 3 hours before and during the bath. Fish appeared to be fine throughout the bath. Put the fish back into the QT tank and it was understandably stressed. Unfortunately I found it dead when I went to feed about 20 minutes ago. I'll keep a close eye on the other fish and, if I notice any discoloration, will do a large water change and start dosing antibiotics to the remaining 4 fish.

Was the discoloration like a white patch, or more like a scuff mark? From the picture it looked more like an injury to me... I will say from experience that lyretail anthias can be territorial and like to pick each other off.

Quite possible a scuff mark. It was one of the smallest.

Okay, Another anthias female is showing identical spots. I just added carbon to the QT and heating up some water for WC. I'll do a 10gal/67% WC and then start dosing antibiotics.

Do you have a male too, or all females? Is this one another of the smallest?

Any new pictures of the current affected fish? Any redness, or just the white scuff looking spot?

3 females, 1 male. This is the largest female. Definitely has a red tint to it.

Best pictures I could grab.

Both, but definitely in the water column. Giving each fish a ruby reef rally bath might help also. The link I added above has more info.

Yeah, gave a bath to the one that perished yesterday. I can use the water I was heating up for the WC for the bath. Metro has been dosed to the QT tank and I added some metro along with focus to some fresh LRS to feed them in a little bit.

Ruby reef rally is pretty mild. Uronema is tough to get ahead of...sometimes the fish don’t make it despite our best efforts.

Like mentioned above, be happy you caught it in QT and be VERY careful to not cross-contaminate between that QT and any other tanks in your house. Anything that touches the QT will need to be thoroughly sterilized and dried out before it can be re-used.
