Thanks guys, may have to let it run its course and see what happens

A+ above.I'm not fish disease expert but look like velvet to me.

Are you seeing salt or sugar-like “sprinkles” on the fish? I can't tell for sure from your photos.

Also, fish with velvet will usually display these key behavioral symptoms:
  • Reduced or complete loss of appetite.
  • Heavy breathing, rubbing, flashing, head twitching, erratic swimming behavior (unfortunately velvet shares all these same symptoms with ich & gill flukes.)
  • Swimming into the flow of a powerhead (unique to velvet).
  • Acting reclusive (velvet causes fish to be sensitive to light).

Yes, salt like dots and even the mama Darin is swimming into heavy flow

Thanks for all the info guys! The mandarin "mama Darin auto corrected" died too. Since I don't have the ability to qt I may just place an order from live aquaria in a month once this passes and get all the fish I'd like to have at the same time. Unless a few make it of course then I may just stay content with the few I still do have

You are dealing with velvet: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/velvet-amyloodinium-ocellatum.217570/

I've had the highest success rate using this protocol to treat velvet: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/velvet-amyloodinium-ocellatum.217570/#post-2499437

You need to go fallow 6 weeks for velvet. However, unless you start QT'ing this scenario is just going to keep happening again & again.

How to Quarantine

Thanks for the info humblefish. I saw that even fish that pull through may break out again 6 months later. Does it ever go away on its own?

X2

Letting this run its course will result in 99% dead fish, and the remaining fish will be carriers allowing every new fish to be infected. There is not an easy option, here. You can either act quickly and try to save everyone and do the above treatments (qt in copper or CP and fallow) or lose all of your fish and end up doing that anyway, later.

Sorry :(

Unfortunately, no. See my last post. Good luck, friend!

Just some sage advice, please don't take this the wrong way.

Slow down and reevaluate your stance on keeping fish and QT.

All fish should be quarantined, regardless of where they come from or how they look when you get them.

Throwing money at fish, only to have them become sick and die without treating them is irresponsible.

Look at it this way, the money you would spend on new fish, spend on a simple QT and meds. Later down the road buy some fish and quarantine them, treat them as necessary and introduce them to your DT. Healthy fish already in the DT won't get sick from the new arrivals and you save money in the long run and everyone is happy.

Patience is key in this hobby and this hobby isn't cheap. Think about it.

True, I've set one up before and may have to again. I've seen this discussion play out enough times. These fish are a couple years old so I'm not really throwing money at fish but I see where you're coming from. Thanks

I am going to set up a 10 gallon tomorrow morning when I can run out and buy copper sulfate. Hopefully someone near me has it. I plan on taking 10 gallons out of display to get it going asap. Any tips?
