Hey guys I have two issues but not sure they are related. I have a bristletooth tang that is covered in white patches as can be seen in the picture.

I also have a clownfish that has died within hours and the female is struggling with an open wound after a freshwater dip. Before the dip it was a white cloudy area on her skin.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, hate seeing animals in pain.

Link didnt work...try again...

So the poor clownfish lost her fight last night unfortunately. Still not sure what caused such a sudden death to both of my clowns.

Id be very interested to hear what people think the tang has. All other fish are perfectly fine and water parameters are fine.

Can you post your water parameters?

Did you add anything recently to your tank?

How long have they been showing symptoms?

Can you take some close up photos please?

Ok parameters are as follows:
Salinity 1.021
KH 10.5
Ammo 0ppm
Nitrate 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
Cal 400ppm
Mag 1200ppm
PH 8
Phosphate 0ppm

I haven’t added anything recently but the bristletooth tang was the last added some weeks ago. He is still super active, eating and acting normal but has had it for about 5 days now.

Photos as best as I can

Thanks. Did you QT the tang?

Can you posy additional close up photos?

Do you notice any raised spots, heavy breathing, flashing, scratching, etc?

You definitely need to get a QT ready, do you have this?

Yeah I QT him for a few weeks and was all good.

No raised spots but has small white dots on him that I can see close up. He has been flicking and rubbing a bit but not heaps. Tried another photo.

Does it look like dusting on the body?

Check out these threads so you can properly diagnose for treatment.

Hey guys just a quick update I removed all the fish and now have them in a QT. The tang looks the worst and looks worse now then before. The picture isn’t the best but he has heaps of white spots all over him now which weren’t there in the display tank.

Currently treating with cupramine.

Any ideas if this will cure them?

Velvet...must act fast and get him to therapeutic levels as fast as he can handle.

Hello,

I would also try to FW Dip to reduce the numbers of parasites and aliviate the gills a bit. As mentioned before, it´s very important to raise to the therapeutic level asap, your running against the proliferation speed of Velvet, and it kills fast. If the fish was with anyother fishes, I'd treat them as well. Best of luck.

He is stressed by the medication in additional to his ailments. Please make sure your testing your water parameters especially ammonia as it can quickly rise in qt which is super detrimental. Get yourself an ammonia alert badge as well. Many test kits are not compatible with copper, you'll get false readings.

What test kit are you using with cupramine? How level is your copper at and how quickly did you get there?

Lastly, a FWD would have been very beneficial but not sure the fish is strong enough at this point to withstand it. Is he still eating?

His still eating and swimming around. I will get an alert badge today for ammonia but have been testing the things with API test kits.

Okay API test kit isn't compatible with cupramine. You'll need to purchase a salifert, sachem, or hanna checker which is the option out of them.

Good job on ordering the badge now order the correct test kit.

Well you could definitely conduct a FWD for 5 minutes to give him temporary relief. I'd stop dosing cupramine until you get the correct test.

Thanks so much for the advice I’ll get out there today and buy the proper test kit. What level is recommended for cupramine for therapeutic?
