I have 5 coming in on Thursday.
Trying to figure out my Qt plan.

Should I do TTM or Copper (Cupramine or Coppersafe I have CP too but I read that is a no no)

Secondly I have 10 gallon tanks available plus 20 longs plus 1 29 gallon
If I go with TTM I would prefer to use the 10's if possible to save on water. I did TTM with the 20's before and I went thru boatloads of water!

I have been reading about lots of velvet outbreaks from the wholesalers that's why I am leaning towards copper.

If you go TTM you for the 4 transfers, you do not necessarily need to fill the 20 gallon up, just use like 15. The long tank will give the Anthias room to swim instead of being cramped in a 10 gallon. I don't know much about copper as I try and stay away from it. There is a write up on TTM that treats flukes as well. I think it adds a few more transfers in the mix. I'll have to do a search for it.

I am familiar with the deworming with prazi on transfers 2 and 4.

My last batch of fish I did TTM

One additional question.

I have 2 lightning maroons coming out of qt. I have taken all the coppersafe out of the tank and am in the 2 week observation window. The sponge filter finally has a decent colony of bacteria that has survived with the coppersafe.

Can I place the new anthias in this 20 gallon and redose coppersafe or is it best to use a new tank and sponge filter?

Only reason I want to use this tank is that I feel the bacteria are able to survive the coppersafe.

I do always keep new sponge filters brewing in the sump so I could pull a new one but usually coppersafe knocks the colony down quick.

I personally use new sponges from the sump and a bottle of Biospira. Probably overkill, but I like to be safe and have plenty of bacteria.

You can. There are plenty of people who don't break down their QT's in between batches of fish. We recommend that you do because it helps cut down on the risk that any lingering bacteria would infect the new fish. It's just safer that way. But if you need to, you can use this 20 gallon tank for the new anthias. I'll say that if you want them to do well for you, feed as often as possible with very small amounts of small foods. Eventually they start taking all kinds of foods readily.

I ordered a long apex cable. My plan is to put an auto feeder hooked into my apex that will feed them multiple times while I'm at work then I'll feed them mysis or something else in the morning and at night.

I have spare tanks I think I'll just set them up in a new tank to be safe and grab a fresh sponge from the sump.

This is a tough call. I wanna say use Coppersafe due to the prevalence of velvet, but TTM using a couple of 20 gals would be the gentlest route.

+1 If you have the medications on hand just in case something like velvet or brook pops up, TTM could be ok. Do you know if they were exposed to copper at the LFS by chance?

Edit to add: if you think there is any chance they were already exposed to copper - I would probably go the copper route.

They are coming from live aquaria so I am not sure if they were exposed to copper? ?

The problem with not prophylactically treating copper is that if it's not at therapeutic levels at the vendor, or not monitored closely enough to make sure it's staying there; it can actually mask symptoms [emoji15]

All set ready to go just waiting for them to arrive. Have my water set at 1.023 because I am not sure what kind of water they will come in. Found an old 30 gallon that they will be housed in. Just need to hookup the auto feeder to the apex

I would have some fresh RO on hand, just in case. I haven't ordered from LA in a while, but my last couple of orders from other vendors came in at 1.015 or lower [emoji15]

I usually do the needle trick before opening the bag. Poke a little hole to get a few drops out to test, then cover it with scotch tape. That way you aren't starting the ammonia death-clock and can adjust as needed while they temp acclimate.

I had this same problem from a large supplier to the store I work at. They usually ship at 1.018 and this time came in at 1.015 which was aweful cause the entire fish system had to be lowered to match. ugh. I hope that doesnt' happen again. Luckily I had about 300 gallons of RO water available. :)

I couldn't imagine having to do this on the scale you do. I have my hands full with my own little tank [emoji28]
