You are entitled to your opinion certainly. I would vehemently disagree. While I would not encourage irresponsible displays, having temporary rotating displays that garner the interest of a child could easily be the source of great innovation for the hobby, mariculture, or environmental rehabilitation. I am a hunter and a sizable amount of my disposable income goes to conservation because of my love of the hobby and the environment that makes it possible.
It's stuff like this that makes people react badly to you. It's really judgemental and extreme.
Do you really think that making a bunch of exhibits that don't appeal to kids out of some arrogant principle is going to advance marine science?
I take my kids to the Maine State Aquarium every year. There's lots of educational stuff there but the only thing the kids remember is the two dogfish they have in a giant white tub that you can pet. Every year we go back to "pet the sharks" and every year they get some exposure to the ocean and marine biology presented in a way children relate to but the reason they stay open minded and interested is because of those sharks in their fake plastic bins.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with the display. All the fish look very happy & healthy. I personally have worked 2 years at the New England Aquarium in the past.
If I am correct, your concerns seem to be about overcrowding & the existence of artificial coral. The NEA has AMAZING filter and water exchange systems that allow for all of it's inhabitants to thrive. So overcrowding is not a problem here, as it is replicating a "real reef fish" environment without using live coral. This particular display is about the fish and not the coral. The NEA has several hundred displays, and each one focusing on a different aspect of the ocean's (and freshwater) inhabitants. They do have coral/reef displays, a penguin habitat, Harbor Seal habitat, Deep sea illuminated creatures, a main shark tank/aquarium, and the list goes on and on.
IMO, it is not right to assume something is wrong without seeing the whole picture.

They actually filter the water right out of Boston Harbor/Atlantic Ocean using an elaborate filtration system. Fortunately for them they are located right on the shore of Boston Harbor to make this possible.

My point is a marine biologist needs to know the understanding and requirements that is need for these fish to survive. In this setup they can learn this which better enables them to understand what is not being provided inthe wild or being damaged causing them to perish.

This bugs me because it is not an ecosystem. It's simply a fish tank with some fake plants and rocks thrown in it.

I went there last year. It is crazy the amount of care they have at this place. I do believe when you watch the penguin display. They say that the water is all circulated from the Atlantic. So they have all the water they need to keep it clean. Bottom line. It is a place to take kids and have them see the world out there that they can not get to yet. There is no reason to call PETA or think they are getting paid under the table to let things slide there. Your point about some fish eating corals. They don't NEED to eat corals. It is just something they do. It is all about them getting their diet. In the video I would say yes they highly do, because this not a bunch of people that have no clue at what they are doing. The people were hired to care for this to the highest level. Can you imagine the cost of a tank crash of this proportion. This is not people who buy an API test kit and shake a couple 5ml vials. Say everything looks good. Let's go home. I feed my tank 3x a day, but I know I don't take care of fish. I take care of water. That is my job/fun for me. They just be fish in the water I provide for me to enjoy and educate people about it when they come over. Same concept, but theirs is 5000x larger. Let's all just hug it out. Leah you had a concern. That's fine. Just need to reword what you say so it doesn't have a lost in text moment.
On a side question. Did you enjoy your time there?
That main central tank. I don't want to give any spoiler alerts, but wow! The angels were huge! The puffers too! I would highly recommend anyone going there.

Honestly I don't remember seeing a tank like the one in the video. They have all side tanks. There is no way they would stick that seahorse in that big one in the video, because like I said before. They know what they are doing.. They have there own tank and it was probably about a 200g. Pretty sweet actually. So the video to me is a lie of its own. They have one monster cylindrical tank you could probably throw a blue shark that is 15 feet long in there and be comfortable. Yes there is sharks in there. Huge tarpon! 75lbs at least. But you blew my cover trying to ask for her favorite parts. Then I was going to call her out. Hahaha. The main tank is about 4 stories high x40 yards wide. French Angels about 2'- 2'1/2

I think this is the pacific reef community tank. But yes a wind up merchant in my opinion and no info to backup her claims. Looking at a video is not good enough to base a comment off. I went on the behind the scenes tour there and they knew there stuff and were very friendly and professional. I will take my child there when she is older for sure [emoji3]So basically an internet troll. Gotcha

A pic as requested. Mainly soft corals, some hermit crabs, prawn goby with snapping shrimp in 60 Liter (= 16 gallons)
Pleasing to see such a nice soft coral tank. I've nothing against hard corals [would keep them if I had more time, etc] but sometimes, I think, soft corals often get less attention than they deserve. Very jealous of the high quality of your coral selection; where I live it's hard work getting a soft coral that isn't brown, beige, or coffee-coloured!

Heres my experience (managed at aquariums/zoos almost 5 years):
1) we have a duty to protect and enrich the lives of the animals we care for.
2) we have a duty to replicate (as best we can) their natural environment to minimize stress on t.
What I see is a healthy tank with happy fish. I see a curator who cares enough about the fish to simulate its environment (fake reef). It "looks" overcrowded to some hobbyists but it does not seem to be the case. If they do rescue unwanted fish (as some larger species outgrow most hobbyists tanks) I think thats absolutely amazing, going above and beyond what an "aquarium" is.
ps. as far as the attacking and name calling (trumpski??). Thats so unnecessary. This site is a beacon for so many people who want to learn and need (sometimes time-critial) advice. I have never had a negative experience, even when I was blatantly wrong on something. Its all about how you act and react to things. For instance: instead of saying "look how terrible they are" you could have said "does anyone else find this odd?" or "Ive always heard xxxx, why are they doing it this way?"
