Do my clownfish look healthy?

Look who came out of hiding! He/she hid in a rock cave all yesterday afternoon. Guess the little guy is coming around.

I still can't get over how awesome my clownfish look.

Kudos to your LFS for asking about a lid and not selling you the fish. You should make getting or making one a priority as all fish are capable of jumping. Your fish are beautiful as well as your pictures.

Look fine to me from what I can see, and I too would probably stop where you are for a little while.
They are both close to same size, don't be surprised if you see them hashing it out some as to who will become dominant female, and there will be a submissive twitch that comes from what will remain male(and I'd guess fidgity to male)

I'll be curious if they take to the fake nem as host

@davocean The pair are sleeping in the fake anemone together for at least the past few nights. During the day I mostly see them swimming around but I'll see what they do Friday when I work from home.

One thing I didn't know is that they are completely still in the morning when I turn on the light. Freaked me out the other morning when I turned on the light and they were literally motionless inside the nem. One was horizontal and one was vertical. Guess it would have been a good time for a pic if I wasn't thinking they were goners.

clownfish at night are really scary, i looked at my tank at night with a flashlight a few times and the clowns were always doing something bizarre. Their favorite is to sleep vertical facing downwards next to the overflow in a corner, which seems odd, but apparently that's just clownfish.

Mine were hosting the back left corner of the tank, but I just removed a powerhead over there and apparently the powerhead was doing the hosting as they're kind of wandering the tank more now. I want to get a nem for them, butttttttttttttttttttt............. too scared. They can find something else to host I'm sure :D

Clowns are usually heavy sleepers, in fact many of us that have needed to catch them for one reason or another do so at night, as you can probably just scoop them up.

The smaller clown has definetly been more submissive. He has a small scrape under his mouth and also a couple of small scrapes on his tail. I think he'll be fine though. The larger clownfish will kind of like flinch at him to psych him out and he falls in line. Hopefully he is done getting banged up.

Omg please go get a lid, or diy one from window frame kits. I lost a beautiful mocha clown because she jumped twice, one at 3am when i inexplicably woke up a minute before the jump, and once when i was at work.

I didnt think clowns would be jumpers but dont take the chance.

Ive lost a few that way as well.

I had my female frostbite try and bite my hand in the tank and ended up on the floor chasing me pulling my hand. Had I not been there, she would be dead.

Bummer! All of the DIY kits have bad reviews. I want to get a custom one from clearviewlids but unfortunately I have to wait. I pretty much can't spend anything until after the government shutdown is over. I spent around 3K in aquarium stuff and was expecting to be getting paid regularly for some odd reason. Guess that was too much to ask for :-(. Sorry for the rant, just frustrated.

I would at least put something flat pin top. Im new to clownfish also and mine were sick when I got them. They are out of the woods now and ever time I feed they jump. If it were not for the hood one would have hit my desktop lastnight.

The BRS kits are good, and even eggcrate could work if you wanted something cheap for now.

Hopefully something is resolved soon ...

Good idea. I forgot about trying eggcrate. I'll go by the hardware store tomorrow and pick some up for the meantime.

I had some reward points on Amazon and went ahead and bought this screen kit.

I already have a spline roller, had to buy the mesh and the clips. I went with this kit based on the reviews.

I may get some egg crate until this gets in. I'd rather be safe that sorry at this point. I'd be devastated if I lost any of my fish.

do you have a rimmed tank? the corner tabs dont appear to have extended edges to sit on rimless tanks like Redsea lids.

I've covered mine with plastic wrap and pit, slot of holes on it just for something they could bounce off of and not het hurt for just overnight before.
Realy, anything so you dont find a dead fish on the floor. And the plastic saran wrap will stick w/o edges clips rim just pit it on the sides and make sure you have plenty of holes.
Tempoary emergency solution only of course.
Really I need a keyboard
