Do some chalices not do it for you?

I really dont see how the miami hurricane became an LE, that thing is dull as hell.:squigglemouth:

Perhaps in your tank, but the MH is definitely not dull IMO. It may not cost a gazillion $ an eye anymore, but that doesn't make it any less sweet. It's a classic that I think every serious collector should have.

Check out this pic of Mark's MH:

Interesting topic with a lot of good opinions so far.

Personally, there are tons of chalices out there that do nothing for me, mainly the mottled color types, like the acid trip, melting pot, etc...It's not the high $ amount either that turned me off to them, I just don't think they look all that special and I definitely do not want to have to wait ~10 years just to see it take on a couple colors that it's "supposed" to have. For example, look at that chalice WWC just posted labeled as "the best chalice ever", sugar mama or whatever it's called. That coral really does nothing for me. Sure it looks cool and the mother colony is pretty impressive in it's own right, but honestly I could see that coral taking FOREEVERRR for a small frag to even come close to looking like that mother colony..

I really prefer the classic, hardy, more proven pieces. I'm also a big fan of the watermelon type chalices, the mummy eye variations and few pieces like the flamethrower, Golden G, orange Immolation, orange sherbet, atl pink mojito are amazing as well. I like chalices with sharp, contrasting colors with larger, bright eyes and a defined rim color is a plus as well. Currently, my Bazooka Joe is the favorite coral in my tank, the thing is just unreal looking and it's so hardy as well.

It comes down to different strokes for different folks, obviously not everyone is going to have the same tastes in coral. IMO, one of the biggest things that makes chalices so awesome is the myriad of different types and color combination's available.(I'm still a stickhead at heart though )

Thanks Josh :)

Here is another one of my "old school" classics; Rasta

Nice piece Mark,

I'd be probably collecting chalices like I do with polyps but unfortunately 2 factors prevent that.
1) They don't like me nor do well
2) Prices

great topic.

and my comment... teach each his own!

Chalices are like designer jeans. some are just levis and wranglers. some of the others may hang well. cool stiches, pockets, whatever. At the end of the day they are still jeans and some with a high price tag.

I am a big fan of the Mummy Eye chalices as well, they just do it for me, especially the Oregon ME!.. I love pink and red watermelons as well. The ones that don't really do it for me are the ones without contrasting eyes

I have never been a fan of those chalices that look like a bad painting. The ones that looks as if someone threw a bunch of paint against against a canvas and called it a day. I mainly like the mummy eye and watermelon type chalices.

Me either. Just wild looking and overpriced. But I'm somewhat color blind so the ones with extreem colors get me going.

I love the Miami Hurricane for some reason. How the body and eyes change colors as it grows. The pink tentacles. Mmmmmm I just love it!
Watermelons are super fun too :) Gotta love the color variation!
