Do some chalices not do it for you?

I am a huge fan of the contrasting eyes (WM's, ME's, etc). I also love any of the ones with colored "bumps" like the orange sherbert, wildfire, peach astro, hologram, etc...even if there are no contrasting eyes. I just love stark, graphic, unmuddled (is that a word?) colors....

The patchwork kinds don't really do it for me. I also don't usually like anything with colors that will blend in to the live rock background, since I mount all my chalices, instead of leaving them on the sand/floor.

I love all the chalices new or old but the only thing that is stopping me to get it is the price range ... I buy cuz I like it and not cuz I want to be part of the GAME

I'm more for the watermelon chalices too. jada, tyree red, tyree pink, bazooka joe, tec, mm. I like the tried and proven chalices that hold their color. I've seen a lot of the new aussie stuff that just does nothing for me. And I sure don't see spending high dollars for them.

I'm a big fan of the old School ones too!!! I LOVE Bazooka Joe, Tyree Red, Tyree Pink, Jayda's Watermelon. Those are some of my favs.

Same here, I was collecting all the hot ones for a while and decided I'm more of the fan of the old school ones. I have a few of the fancy ones too, but I'm no longer on the hunt to have them all. My most killer piece is a small colony I purchased from LA's DD ... it's awesome!

At the time, it was not. There were not nearly as many chalices available and the MH was something special. It also has a lot of potential that is unrealized in most systems. I recently saw a colony that had developed an aquamarine base rather than the steel grey colored base. It was amazing but the color shifted quickly under new lights.

And to answer the original question...there are definitly a lot of chalices that just don't do it for me. I don't buy them.

I usually stay away from those types of chalices, the oversaturated pictures threw me off, i dont like my tank that blue anyways. That new piece sure is nice without atinics tho.

i like most everything that has color as far as corals, but i don't wanna own them all. I'm not a huge chalice fan anyways, but i recently saw BGM and that thing pops and looks incredible AS A FRAG, thats what i like.

Its definitely about personal choice. I still a huge fan or bright, contasting colors in corals and the way the colors are almost puzzled together just have never done it for me.

I appreciate the feedback that has been shared. As always, there are always opinions that range from all over the place and thats the great thing about online forums

I'm with you, Mark, on the colors. The mixed up color crayon ones grab your attention at first because they are different, but my tendency is back to the ones that have the even colors with distinct eye shadows and potentially a rim color.

It reminds me of plaid or tie-dyed clothing....catches your attention with all the colors and patterns, but most will not or should not wear it.:wink:

My favorite chalices are Mummy Eyes though.

I actually just saw the craziest nice coral that didn't cost that much and is unreal. I'm waiting patiently

I also picked up all kinds of stuff last summer that sucked! and still cost a ton since the pictures looked good. You wouldn't even recognize half of the stuff if I posted it.

Now that with the baby on the way, I've gone away from buying and just trade. The problem is trying to remember the names. I just show pictures and if its what people like the color speaks for itself.
