I thought this thread was gonna be about getting a check from Obama to keep my tank running......... :D

BTW nice thread!

I love hearing everyone's stories, makes me feel good about the support I do get. I think secretly the other half is thrilled I have something to keep me occupied.

I can say now that my wife actually supports me ( not financially buying me corals ) lol.. Now she see's all the hardwork that I put into it. I created a somewhat 180g and a 90g Cube that 99% of the people love when they come to our house. Before she was not supportive of me as she thought it was like another hobby of mine ( like cars and end up selling it cheaper lol ) . She saw me writing on calendars on how much I dose ( brightwell stuff) and that made her say " My husband is serious about this "..

About moneywise people who knows me locally I worked 30-35 hours Overtime for me to get corals ( yes 7 days : ) .. Now I am on the stage that most of the corals I bought grew and recycle them thru trading and selling.. Now I have 3 kids so that time is spent with family :)...

Same here! I know mine is thrilled as well that I'm occupied ... but he reminds me to not forget about him either.

One of the things about him joining me once and awhile at the banquet dinners with keynote speakers or at RAP in the presentations ... he always finds a time to spew off some of the information that he heard and actually retained. The best was when we got back from RAP, I found that all my lights were off on my 92G tank and had been for days according to someone watching my tank. I was really irritated and he tells me "remember, it's not the lighting that is important, it's the flow so your tank should be just fine". All I could do was look at him in awe and shake my head!

No support here. But i just setup my tank at my parents house and they are loving it!!! Just can't tell them how much everything is worth or they will either not believe me or tell me i'm crazy!!

100% support here. Not as first but now I am always asking him to stop spending all the money!!!:)

NOOOO support on my end! i get the occasional crack... "there she is, up on the ladder with her arm in the tank.." as he goes by. Once in a rare blue moon i catch him looking in the tank. He's the stay at home dad, i bet he watches my tank ALL THE TIME when im not home! lol Doesn't really bother me tho, its one thing that i have all to myself with no one elses input!

I was into reef tanks when I met my wife, so I've slowly trained her right:D. I've got it better than most, I think. She doesn't like me spending like I do, but I've got 11 tanks in the house, so I'm getting by. She cut me off on more tanks four tanks ago:rolleyes: .

LOL im with you, if i told my sig. other the cost of the things in the tank... i think his head would just plain roll off onto the floor. LOL that's why, I tell him everything was $20! hehehehehe :snicker:

100% here, too. We've got a nice division of labor going on here. He's the equipment guy, and I'm the livestock girl. He designs, executes, and maintains anything mechanical, plumbing, or electrical, with the exception of controlling the heaters. I maintain and feed the tank. We both choose livestock here and there to purchase, but since I work at an aquarium fish store, I tend to bring home more things, lol.

We both enjoy looking at and learning about all the life forms in the tank, and he came with me this year to the Midwest Marine Conference. Willingly, I might add. :)

I'm a lucky girl.:sweet_kiss:

Actively dislikes it: waste of time, money & a stupid hobby,

doesn't really think it's a stupid hobby, per se. just does not appreciate why everything has to be so expensive.

my daughter (4 years old) loves it. stepson (17) couldn't really give a rip, but his friends like it.

mother-in-law loves it.

everyone else thinks it's a waste of money

Don and I spenD hours and tons of money on our hobby. At first I wasn't sure about the saltwater aquariums. Our first tank was sorta drop on us. Our son had a crisis and move home with his 29gal aquarium. Being the typical kid his tank became our tank. Don loved it and I was just "it just a tank". Then he got the 120 and I went shopping with him and saw zoas for the first time. I fell for the flowers of the sea. I spent the next 4 months reading and studing everything about saltwater aquariums. I WAS HOOKED.

my wife likes it as long as i don't cut in her time because of the tank.she picks some stuff out at the stores from time to time.she does get upset when i go overboard on time spent on the tank which happens from time to time.i have to get a permission slip to attend my local clubs monthly meeting though. :haha:

Well the wifey is kind of coming around. She will put her hands in the tank now if need be. I travel every week for work right now so she has to kind of manage things for me while I am away. So she feeds every day for me and turns a valve on Wednesdays to fill the top off tank. I would have serious problems if she didn't do these things.

On the other hand she hates all the $$$ I "used" to spend!! :) Its a good thing I "trade" for everything now.

Ben

my wife tolerates it and enjoys it to a point, she said that if we ever split up she would take the fish but not the corals. She is recently happy with me because I am getting more and more paly's/zoas which she loves...She also has taken a liking to my Aqua Delight acro. She just get's mad sometimes because I am such a neurotic freak about my tank and ever since the chalice bug hit me money is strangely "disappearing" all the time :D

at alot of the stores around here they write the price on the bags with marker. I used to rub off a number or two before i got home lol. sometimes i would put two coral in one bag and leave the price on the bag. the other bag would find its way into a trash bin on the way home lol
