Do you guys name your fish?

I used to have a whole directory of my fish species and their names. It became bad luck after a month.

Scopas tang is Tangie
Starry Blenny is Banger (headbanging on the rocks)
the hammer is "MC"
RBTA is Rosie
Watermelon BTA is Anemonemone
canary blenny is nanner
arrow crab is Parker (looks like a spider, so Peter "Parker")
Royal Gramma is Skol (vikings fans)
the serpent star is Frankie

We and our kids name all our fishes, and since we speak Spanish, Italian and English they have multicultural names....
Pair of clowns: Payasito and Payasita.
Pair of Yellow Watchman goby: Cara de Palo (Stick face) and Faccia Brutta (Ugly Face).
Lawnmower blenny: Blenny...
Pair of Firefish: One Fish, Two Fish.
Pair of blue line and yellow line cleaners: Limpin and Limpina.
Yellow tang: Sushi
and finally our Sea urchin with the best personality: Urchi.

We were trying to think of names for our Purple Fire Fish (now known as Violet) and our YWG and it got me to thinking if people name their fish?

Frankly I really don't know, I always just assumed they were like dogs or cats, you name them. So what do you guys do?

Never. Until my 4 year old named my latest wrasse Timmy. Now we go and check on Timmy in QT every day. Lord help me of anything happens to him

I only name the ones that have a lot of personality... I have a bi-color blenny named "Beaker" after the muppet.

Nice! I've always wanted a bi-color blenny but my LFS scared me away because of how aggressive they (LFS) say they are. They basically told me it would kill a YWG. Have you and any issues?

I have named my fish as well.
My clown fish of course I call him Nemo
Fox Face I call him King (He owns the tank lol)
My yellowed eye kole tang is Bully (Can you guess why? lol)
My blenny I call him Starry (Of course because he is a starry blenny)
Royal Gramma I call him Brighty (I know weird)
Purple Fire fish I call him Timid.

IDK why but I go based off there personalities. lol

Blue Chromis. Big one is Donald three little ones Huey Dewy and Lewy. Can’t tell them apart yet
Canary Blenny is Tweety. Not very imaginative but it works.

Harry, Lloyd, Uno (ocellaris) and Bandit (Wyoming White) clownfish
Foxy the yellow tang and Frankie the tomini tang
Scooter (scooter blenny), Sharkbait (blackline blenny) Murray (lawnmower blenny)
Moop the pearly jawfish
Qui Gon Finn (Orangeback Fairy Wrasse)
Big Tasty (dogface puffer)
Patrick (sandsifting star) Eugene and Little Guy (emerald crabs)
...and The Three Stooges (my 3 green chromis)

Spending so much time taking care of and observing them, I couldn't help but give them names. They are my little water pets.

Yes but not very creative with names...flagfin is sunny, blond naso is blondie, scribble angel is scrib, GEM, YT is bubbles, Nemo, etc. grandchildren are coming over soon to name all un-named fish..stay tuned it could get interesting!

I had a firm rule: no names until it gets in the DT.

So... now that I finally have them in the DT, the names we were already calling them are official:
The two clowns are Poseidon and Amphritrite.
The Black Axil chomis are "chromis" or "pretty fish".
The Yellow Watchman Goby, during a full water change in the QT tank, went missing. I know it made it into the holding bucket. Then I cleaned the QT tank, and released the fish back in... but no goby. I eventually decided it had jumped the bucket and Sadie the Wonderdog had a snack.

Days later, the dang goby came out to eat.

The only thing I can figure is that it burrowed in the small container of sand, under the small bit of shelf rock.

So it's name is Houdini. Which is even more fitting: as soon as it went in the display tank, it started exploring the rock. And that was the last I saw of it. I know it's in there somewhere, but I can never catch a glimpse of it.

Yep, my two darwin clowns are Benny & Jet. My green clown goby is Elton. Even named my 3 hermits, Thor, Loki and Odin. They all have their own little personalities so they deserve names imo.
