I would argue TTM is not harmful at all..I agree TTM is much less harmful than copper but it is unfortunately is not the first recommendation most of the time.

So what if its not the 'first recommendation'? You should be being proactive and researching and coming to your own conclusions regarding strategy- not just relying on what 'everyone' else recommends and going off what a random lfs employee or Facebook guy says.I agree TTM is much less harmful than copper but it is unfortunately is not the first recommendation most of the time.

Its unfair because I would NEVER poison my dog for 30 days for a few ticks, especially without even confirming the ticks are there in the first place. And I'm pretty sure most dog owners would agree. People that don't QT are not neccessarily lazy, some of us believe that destroying a fish's immune system by poisoning them without even confirming they are sick is the unethical thing to do.
Debating QT or not to QT was never my intention here. I believe people should do what feels right to them. There are many reasons that people don't QT and its not because they are lazy and not because they are heartless and would let ticks suck the blood from their dogs without doing anything was my only point. So what if its not the 'first recommendation'? I mean- if you go to the fish disease section right now- theres a Big post about hybrid TtM. It's literally one of the first recommendations
You can't see heartworm the same way you can see ich spots or ticks, which is why I said ticks.I think a better comparison is not medicating for heartworm, or not getting your dog properly medicated or vaccinated as a puppy.

But yeah- they both stand. Why medicate and prophylactically treat dogs and cats, but just throw fish in a tank and say 'it's all natural so it's immunity will keep it alive' .
Besides- I QT not just for ich, but velvet, uronema, intestinal worms, gill flukes. Even IF cryptocaryans was the only thing to worry about, id still QT, since it's still a disease and intentionally letting them hang out in an infected environment is wrong.
I do it for the same reasons I vaccinate my dog and feed my kids enriched milk
Yeah, that sucksI did until I added cheato from a local reefer. Then bamm ich about 3-4 weeks later. Pulled all fish currently in qt. 72 more days left. Ramping copper up to therapeutic levels. I will never ever add anything without it sitting in a separate tank for the appropriate qt time, cheato, snails, crabs etc. Been a rough 1.2 years with this system, Dino's twice, ich.

Yeah, that sucks
A lot of people don't realise that copepods, being hard shelled invertebrates, can harbor ich cysts, as can snails that might be present in the chaeto
Had a hunch you might make an entrance Paul.![]()

We do indeed esp as most cant figure out why are tanks aren't death cells for any fish.I made an entrance and got right out. We know what can happen in these threads.![]()

I would venture to say 90 percent (at least) have Ich in the tank, they just don’t know it. It’s definatly manageable, and not too hard to use good practice to keep it at bay.Nope, definitely have ich in the tank, and I’m okay with that.

No. I have ich my system. Never really worry about it as it only shows up when the fish are stressed and even then it will only be a few spots for a day or two then its gone.
TTM is drug free and takes 12 days.
The problem is that people don't want to invest the time, since it's 'inconvenient'
If you do it upfront as you buy fish, you don't even have to do a fallow period. Patience and attention save a ton of heartache in this hobby
