Do you use mechenical filtration-such as filter floss, polyfilter, etc.?

I do. Switched from polyfill to filter floss pads. Polyfill is basically polyester. I didn't care for it. I attribute some tank issues to it as well.

Thanks. I'm just kinda wondering if I'm gonna encounter problems in the future since I don't use mechanical filtration in my 8 months old sumpless tank.[emoji846]
You'll encounter things floating around. Other than that nope.

Is it really necessary?

Not in my experience... I like for things to float freely throughout the system. When I really stir things up in my tank during a water change then I'll put a mechanical filter to good use. I can probably remove more crap this way in a couple hours than the filter sock can all week. Also, my Clownfish breed on a regular basis too. When this happens some of my LPS corals have a field day and I would hate to deprive them of that.

. What kind of filters do you have? I found in my sumpless the mech filters worked better than the hob skimmer.
In a sumpless you should feed different.
