Does anyone know what this stringy stuff is?

My zoas do this everytime I do a water change. They don't seem otherwise bothered, but I was just curious.

Probably some vermetid worm I think. They send out silky threads to catch debris. Not that bad but annoying to corals. They have a calcified curly-q shell. Look for it.

How big are they? And why does it happen only when I change the water?

If u only have a few I would tweeze them out or super glue them. They're definetly a pest. They don't hurt zoas but def irritate them

Possibly when you do water change your stirring up something it wants to feed on

Sometimes coral will slime when they are disturbed to give them a little protection

The zoas/paly slime, They are trying to adjust to the water. As stated above the slime gives them a little bit of protection. Nothing to worry about.
