I'm tired of dealing with sketchy and dishonest people who want to know tons of information about the corals I'm selling and then bail as soon as I give them the information they want.

This is partially my mistake. I shouldn't be so attentive I guess, but is there some sort of blacklist or way of letting other reefers know who they should be weary of doing business with?

What makes them sketchy or dishonest... them asking questions and not buying?

I don’t know what you are selling, but if it is high end pieces people may just be looking for more info before buying. And maybe after getting your answers it is not what they are wanting. Or maybe they are making sure it is what they want before asking a significant other for approval to purchase, and that approval is denied lol

If these are general questions (such as “is this freshly fragged or has it had time to heal?”), you may consider updating your post to include more info. Or be up front with things like “PM is key”, “no trades”, “prices firm”, “local pick up only”, “photo under x lights”, etc...

Some people may just admire your corals and looking for info on how you keep them. They could be asking questions to find out in a round about way.

Customers are 100% allowed to ask questions- about the coral, pricing, even when you are available to ship. Until payment is made, there is no agreement. It just makes you look bad if you are unwilling to have these normal conversations with potential buyers. Especially given you are not a sponsor, and shouldn’t be dealing with commercial volumes anyway ;)

I’m sorry but have you seen the conversations ? Didn’t think so

Why the attitude @Brian Goldstein ? You asked a question, people responded trying to help solve the issue, you responded with attitude instead of helping us understand  Actually I may understand exactly why you did not hear back from people after seeing your responses in this thread.

Because you judge before even hearing me out. Useless to argue when you already have your minds made up.

Brian, I think I get what you are getting at. Tire kickers. Just wasting your time?
Yes, that’s partially it. Thank you for being understanding. It’s not so much the people that waste my time, it’s the ones who commit to buying, want me to hold the coral for them, want me to take pictures of the coral with their first and last name and telephone number .. then straight up ignore me and even having the courtesy to tell me they’ve decided to go buy somewhere else.

My guess is that’s something more then you have to deal with. This hobby is expensive and I see lots of very young people in it, many having young families. I can imagine they see something they want but in the end can not afford it. Might be embarrassed to let you know that. Course they could just be someone who is discourteous too.

Yeah, I understand that completely. These are common occurances. I’ve actually had much worse interactions these past few days which is why I initially posted this. Guess I’ll just have to suck it up and keep my mouth shut. Cheers man

Being an entrepreneur for 25+ years in service sector, when I get calls , some are from the competition, I'm very aware when most calls are from competition. In college one subject I took was sales and marketing. One thing your taught is "know your competion." Think of it that way with some calls.

Thank you for the advice. I’ll let this be a business lesson.
