Dominant clownfish attacking other one!

I don't know admit it matters if you are trying to get them to mate or not, they will pair up. That's why so many people try multiple clowns and end up with two. Pair kills the others off.

Take the bully back. LFS won't give much if anhtjing for a beaten up one. Let it heal up, dose some VIT C, and try another.
But I am not trying to mate them

I would return the bully as well. It almost sounds like they are both females. Either way, return one and replace it with a small juvenile that you KNOW couldn't have transitioned or started the transition into female.

I had the same problem.
I put the more aggressive clownfish in my sump for a couple of days to let the other calm down again. After that mine get along a lot better.
If you don't have a sump then you could maybe purchase a net breeder. You can get them at petsmart or on amazon.
Hope this helps
He died today :/

I had two clown in a breeding setup for a year. They swam together and hosted a six flower pot together. Then last week the female harassed it to death, I moved the male to Frag tank thenbit died.

I am sorry to hear and mine just died a few hours ago too :/

I had a female black and white that killed 2 attempts to match her up. She made them jump though, not beat up per se. However, jumping out of the covered tank could not have been easy.

I am sorry for your loss. If you want to match up clowns and have one currently, always get a much smaller one to add (even that does not work all the time -- ex. my black and white).

I am not trying to mate them. And I am not going to get a new one atm. But I might later when I have stable water parameters

If you have two clowns, they will usually mate whether you want them to or not. If you have two separate species, they will fight. Just so you are aware. You can have just one, but two and you will have to get them to bond and mate, or they will not work together.

Later on what cool eazy fish would you recommend to put with them (I also have a blue damsel

If you put two clowns in there, they will eventually get too big. Also, anything else in there is too much bioload. Sorry. If you want one clown and a goby pistol shrimp, those are fun. Or a couple firefish and one clown. The damsel will get very territorial too and begin to act out soon.

There is cool stuff to add to a 10g, but not large stuff. Do some research on nano and pico set ups here. They will give you some great ideas.

Just wanted to add to this thread in case anyone stumbles across it. My pair has been in the tank five months together since they were pretty small. They must have matured because now they’re trying to establish who is going to be who in the relationship. The less dominant one isn’t giving up, and is pretty haggard, and hasn’t been allowed to even eat. A lightbulb went off when I read another thing about a female having multiple males around in the wild so wouldn’t just pick on ONE, so I decided to head to YouTube! There’s an hour long video of a pair of clowns in a nem. I propped it up against the side of the tank where her hairy mushroom host is, and it’s totally working! She still goes back to our smaller one to argue and peck at him, but also diverts her attention to the video enough that he can rest and isn’t just flopping at the top of the tank desperate for reprieve. Worth a shot for anyone going through this until the pair establishes who is boss! Photo shows iPad on the other side of the tank, and of them coexisting next to each other now.
