Don't be a jerk.

This is on Neptune and sounds completely wrong. I’d be upset if a company messed up my order and made me deal with another customer and shared my home address with them. If your story is true be mad at Neptune not the other customer.
BOTH! Neptune as with any company should have had it sent back to them for inspection and reship, for if the item was received damaged- now becomes a blame game.
Neptune should have requested tracking info which would have shown item was NOT in transit to you.

I’ve been in the situation where someone else gets my order and I get theirs, for reefing gear. In this case the items were not easily replaced, so sending back would take longer, and the company sending replacements immediately wasn’t an option.

The company asked me if I wouldn’t mind sending to the other person, and they also asked the other person. Since we were both reasonable people we didn’t mind, and it went fine. I didn’t feel pressured or anything and quite frankly I’m surprised everyone on here is getting so upset about how Neptune handled it (assuming they asked both parties upfront if this was ok) since it sounds like at least the OP’s item was probably a refurb.

If Neptune did this without asking first it wouldn’t be cool. If they asked and both parties were fine with it, and then the other guy didn’t do what he said he’d do, then he wasn’t being very cool.

Totally Neptune's fault and responsibility to resolve. That's awful customer service. I hope they offer you some goodwill gesture.

While your post seems reasonable , I don’t believe anyone is upset but more surprised at the shift of responsibility in resolving their mixup. My concern would have been package opened and parts missing or damaged box causing further delays.
Once buyers make purchase, the transaction is in the hands of both merchant and shipper.
It was nice to see everyone received their products but it was also Less than convenient and with risk.
If there is a level of upset, I would be upset to have a 3 day expected arrival come in 3 weeks and after doing ALL the legwork to retrieve my own order. This isn’t typical however with Neptune who IMO has Great customer service.

If the stuff is out of stock it is very hard for the Neptune company to send out another.
That could be the reason.
Personally I have very bad experiences of my customers. I have stopped lending out books because its so hard to get them back.
I get answers like I never imagined You want it back. You have read it - wright or wrong.
I lend out one of my shop UVC:s to a customer with Ich. (not from me)
I got it back with broken UVC tube. (How can You sell so lousy things) I told the customer that when I sell them they are packed in pieces in foam plastic.
But it was not his fault.
So now I never lend out things and never expect the customers to actually do anything for me.

I received the box yesterday. Everything was fine. I emailed Neptune support and let them know it arrived. I also let them know about my post here, and how so many people expressed their thoughts that Neptune shouldn't have left it to the customers to send back and forth. I got a call from them with an apology. I have no problem with Neptune support. All's well that ends well.
