DOS tubing?

200 feet of tubing.... Thats a long trip!
I have a weird house.
I got the dos for my clownfish breeding tank (14 gallon). I will change 8 gallons a day from my DT and then pump it back into my DT.
The DDR is for once I get the bigger tank for my clowns and I will use the DOS for 2-part.

Wait you're using DDR and dosing through 200 feet of tubing? I thought this was for AWC.
I got 2. One for 2-part, one for AWC.

Let me make it less confusing.
I have 2 DOS coming.
One is to change out 5 gallons a day from my DT and put in fresh SW.
The other DOS is for changing 8 gallons a day to and from the 14 gallon clown tank.
After I get a bigger tank cycled for the clowns, I will use the dos that I was using for the clown tank to dose 2-part.

Ahh I get it. 200 ft of 1/4 ID is 1/2 gallon; I dont know if that plays a role in your calculations, but the 14g will not be getting "fresh" water if you are doing it throughout the day. Still will need a heater and such.

Yes. I know. It is a full set up tank.
I am doing the water changes because 2 clownfish in a 14 gallon tank is too much for the bio load capacity of that tank

I have a 200 watt heater in the tank.

I use standard 1/4” RO, heat the end in hot water and push over the fittings, then tighten n
The standard DOS tubing is 6mm OD x 4mm ID

However, I’ve gone all standard 1/4” RO tubing by using this John Guest fitting mod on my DOS tubing head connectors...

I use standard 1/4” RO, heat the end in hot water and push over the fittings, then tighten nut. It’s very secure. I was planning on the cool conversion you did but decided I didn’t need it.

That’s what I was gonna do too, but I’m a nerd that likes to tinker for the sake of tinkering so I did the mod. :D

The bigger reason is that I have the DDR as well and the DOS soft tubing notoriously leaks air through the John Guest quick connect fittings for the DDR. It’s quite the head scratcher why Neptune didn’t use common fittings for both the DOS and the DDR.

I am also curious what tubing others are using. The DOS tubing comes bundled so tightly that it is kinked in several places and seems impossible to straighten out. I also don't think it can be replaced with standard 1/4" tubing but maybe someone else made it work.

I got the 50' version from BRS and put it in the sun for a few hours stretched out with clamps. It did straighten a bit but not completely. The ones that came with the DOS were really bad, almost unusable.

Putting the entire length of tubing in a pot of hot water for 5 seconds takes away all of the headaches.

I did the same as you when I installed mine about 14 months ago and a few days ago checked the fittings and found I could tighten them about 1/2–3/4 turn each, so it is worth keeping an eye on them. I doubt they loosened, but the dosing line probably shrunk in thickness a little over time.

Would anybody be able to post the fitting change pictures? I am not a member on the other forum and it will not show me the upgrade.

I went ahead and measured my tubing the other day. Measurement tool was a couple month old pair of 8" Mitutoyo digital calipers (with the NIST traceable cert). Tubing was put nearly parallel to the jaws along with a light touch to avoid ovalling it as much as possible.
The orange Neptune tubing measured 0.248".
The clear BRS hard tubing (looks like hardware store refrigerator water line) measured 0.245".
The BRS soft line (looks like vinyl aquarium air line) measured 0.245".
Sadly I didn't think to measure the RO line at the time and my calipers are not with me currently.
In my mind my orange Neptune line was closer to 1/4" than it was to 6 mm, although it could just be a batch running on the large end of spec.

For the DOS application you could always put a push connect coupler on a short length of the orange hose (the 1/4" ones from Lowe's seem to work fine on my Neptune hose), then couple that to whatever you want. Not as clean looking, but no DOS modification needed.

Has anyone tried 1/4 tube from like home
Depot??
That's what I've been using and it has worked well. It can be a bit difficult to get onto the DOS head but as long as you press the tubing in hard while tightening it down, it works. I know some people will soak the tip in hot water before to give it a bit more elasticity. Just be careful not to wiggle the connector back and forth too much because the DOS connectors crack easily.

Thanks
So isn’t the issue the lows stuff is to tight or so big?

Not sure, I've only used the 1/4" tubing from HD, and RODI tubing from online vendors. The Neptune DOS tubing fits the connectors well but it is a pain to work with.

Some people have actually added 1/4"x1/8" female adapter push connect fittings to their DOS pumps so that they can just push RODI tubing into the connectors instead of having to shove it on to the DOS fitting. I'll likely be doing that in the near future as well.

Yup, best solution by far for those leaky DOS compression connectors... just make sure you use Teflon paste for the 1/8” threads.
