If your tank has been through the cycle and set up for a while you should have nitrifying bacteria. Nopox will help reduce nitrates and phosphates without adding bacteria. I have quit using it myself and gone to vodka dosing. I was getting some weird cotton like algae which I could not identify. So far using the vodka these issues have went away. And might I say much cheaper.
