So I changed my plumbing around so I could add a filter sock to my sump...

Before I was running a reverse durso on the drain into the sump and it was nice and quiet... now the drain empties above water and into the sock and is really loud as it falls...

What are my options? Should the drain be further down in the sock? Thanks for the help!

I had the same problem so I put a sponge in top of the filter sock. Super quiet now.

Any way you can make the drain empty below the water line and into the sock?

I have a 5-6" piece of pvc that I put into the bulkhead on my sump so the water drains about 3" under water in the sock. It's not glued so I can remove it when changing socks. It made a big difference.

Not really.. it's super tight and I had to do some interesting plumbing to even make it work... I'm gonna lower the pipe as far as possible and maybe add a sponge or poly filter as suggested above

You could add some pvc to go down into the water inside the sock. That's going to make it hard to Chang out the sock

Yea i have to make a portion of the pvc removable anyway to change it out...

I found a barbed adapter at lowes and got some 1" tubing to connect to the end of my pvc... quieted it significantly.. still a little loud at night when the house is silent... but overall much much better...

I had the same issue with my tank in my living room. I use a filter sock with a tie string on a mount that's solid but what I did was I installed a section of flexible Jacuzzi tube that goes just below the water line. The best part is that is stays flexible so changing the sock is a snap.

Yea it didn't keep me up last night.. but still kinda loud when the house is quiet... some of the noise is from the top of the drain pipe in the overflow... gonna tweak it a little more

Make shore your return line does not hang lower than your sump an then come back up into the sump. This will cause a lot of noise.

I have a similar setup. I have 2 1.5" drain lines each draining into a filter sock. All I did was use a pvc barbed fitting as my last connection. I sanded the barbs off of it and use a 12" approx piece of spa tube to go into the bottom of my filter sock eliminating all noise. With the barbs gone it still fits snug so it doesn't come off but makes it very easy to slide off to change the socks.

If your getting noise in the overflow it may be the water level, I installed a shutoff valve that I can adjust the rate of return. I slowed mine down so the water level raised slightly and the overflow is quiet as can be.

A simple solution is to get some polyester silk screen mesh off of ebay or amazon- its super cheap and very strong - http://www.amazon.com/Screen-Printing-120mesh-Stencil-007205/dp/B00JOZ4VP2
You basically wrap it around your plumbing, with a tye wrap making a cloth extension pipe down to and below the water. you don't have to sew it - just 2 or three wraps around the pipe making a cloth tube. (this stuff is stiff) It still allows air and water through but will completely eliminate both salt creep and splashing. Very quiet. And the best part - it completely eliminates microbubbles...

So Robert, you still have to take the tube/fabric off when you change the sock, right? Just set up a 240 and my wife is complaining about the same thing. I've got about an 8" drop and can push a pipe that will stay in place but has to come out to take the sock out.

So everytime u change your filtersock u change that sponge or u just rinse it out n put it back on top of the sock?
