No - you don't take the cloth tube off at all...I just tie wrap it in place and since its open on the end below the water, its more or less just part of the plumbing...but is still just cloth so its totally flexible - nothing to take off to change out a filter sock.

The top of my filter tube is flush with the top of the sock which slides in like a tray. That's 6" above water line. Anything that extends below that must be removed to take out the tray/sock. Can I get another type of mounting method? Let me know if a pic would help.

Its a cloth tube - so it compresses pretty flat - maybe adding 1/4" to your required clearance, but that might be enough to prevent you from sliding in the sock tray. Just depends on the clearance and how much play you have.

I'm pretty picky about maintenance.. I don't plan to let it sit long enough to become a nitrate factory... it will be cleaned and swapped weekly..

Sorry, it's flush on the underside. How do you mount it?

Just saying why use one unessasary
Some folks say skimmers are unnecessary, ato, carbon, gfo, on and on... just another tool... not for all tanks and everyone...

Keeps my water clear, sump clean...

Just curious as to what u use if you dnt use a filter sock? I thought almost everyone used that or polyfiber in the sump
I use a good protein skimmer and cheato if you use a sock you are going to not allow the nutriants that the cheato needs to keep pods.

The pvc is the easiest way to go . i do it . Just put it in and when you change the sock pull it out

Not true by any means... the sock doesn't remove phosphates or nitrates... it's removes large particles like sand, fish food, detritus etc....

Ok great... so you are saying a sock removes phosphates and nitrates? That's what cheato absorbs

The oldest reefers here don't use them just ask I'm telling you that you don't need it.

Just wanted to say sorry just trying to help you out and take some of the work off ya
