Drawing Hanna reagent for alk question

Well I did it twice once at the 0.1 line (8.6) and once at the 0.0 line (9.0).

I guess its not terribly off if someone would like to know if this is that major of a difference

Well, you’re more after stability than anything, I don’t think it will make a big difference if you test it the same way every time and you get the same result every time. Unless you’re shooting for a specific number.

But I bought a Hanna because I want to know the exact number. :D

I got mine because without it, I’d be wasting several hours of my life each month titrating lol
 
Actually, the "small tip" starts at the bottom of the cylinder (at zero) where the scale reads 1.0. When you draw the plunger back, the small end needs to go to the end of the scale, (not marked zero) to fill 1.0 mls. The syringe is not ideal for this application, imo. :)

Without pictures its hard to tell exactly what you mean and (also @ScottR). But - I this is whats correct:


When using our HI772 and HI755 marine alkalinity Checkers the liquid reagent is administered with a 1ml syringe and tip. When the tip is attached to the syringe, all of the reagent will remain in the tip leaving the syringe portion empty. If the tip is not attached, then there will be a small space of air between the 1ml of reagent and the last mark on the syringe. When using the syringe, always bring the black rubber stopper to the last full line, not the reagent. Matching the reagent to the last fill line will result in overdosage of reagent.

+1 to this, this is the correct way to do it. The bottom black line of the ‘stopper’ sits on the line as shown

You got me thinking as well! Lol
 
Finally got home and did a test. I went to the line above 0.01 which would obviously be 0.00. My initial thinking was, “why is 1mL at the bottom?” After a second test, I again got 10.2 - which is where I think I should be. Thanks for the help guys. Glad to know I’m not the only one that wasn’t 100% sure.
