so I bought a nuvo 20 and a new stand but I have 1 problem. The width of the 20 is 15” and the stands width is 14”. Bought it used so I’m stuck with it but can I use it still? Will this work in the long run ?

How would you support 1”?

I would top your stand with a piece of plywood or something similar to match the dimensions of your tank to give it full support.
Are you suggesting he lay a piece of thick piece maybe 3/4inch of plywood across the top of his stand and let 1/2 inch hang on each side? Kinda makes sense i imagine, if it could withstand the load.

It's only half an inch on each side. 3/4" thick plywood would easily be able to carry the small load of what's on that half inch to the stand. I dont see a problem with it besides the look. Just make sure you screw the plywood into the stand, maybe try to paint it to match the stand. Could also use molding under the lip to make it transition into the stand better, might look fine.

Go to the ikea. Get a counter top with a rounded lip on the front side. They have ones with formica laminated that are pretty cheap and thick. I think 1 1/8" thick. Cut it to fit. Comes with additional strips to cover the sides.

Theres one problem with that idea. “It won’t look nice.”she said. Th3 stand is rated for 60 gallons and it’s 4ft long and 14” wide.
How do I post pics ?

It might look better than if you did nothing...

I agree a ply top could solve your issue, and if it's short front to back direction you could possibly put the whole inch on the backside and actually even run 1x verticals under to do it properly, though it's a small tank and the ply alone would probably be fine.

You definitely need rim support though for a trimmed tank.

We all use a photo host of some kind, I think some are using Imgur, I use smugmug but smug is not a free photo host, someone else can chime in on that, but a pic or 2 would be very helpful to give sound advice

IM 25... same issue. I used satin black polyshades after cutting the 3/4 ,plywood to size. Good luck!

Hmm, already overhanging, not best design really, and another step out is not ideal, but it is only a 20g tank I guess.
Still, it needs support under perimeter, it can't just hang over.

Hard to judge by pic, but that looks like a bit of overhang, and a non trimmed tank that usually needs good full bottom support, again, not ideal, but hopefully not such an issue just from tank size, but I would not trust that fix on a good sized tank really.

I guess I should mention I'm a contractor/carpenter and I've built many stands over the years.
People get by or get lucky, but overhangs like that don't sit well w/ me.

About an inch. Not sure what you are talking about that the bottom isnt supported. Thats what the plywood is for. My intent is to show a solution to the OP that was successful. [emoji106]

Not bagging on resolve or helpful post, just saying it's trimless and needs full support rather than just rim support like a trimmed tank.
An inch is probably not a biggie, from pic it looked like maybe more.

Should I proceed with the plywood idea.

You could, and due to just tank size it will probably be ok, but best really would be to add something under it that actually supports that overhang.

It could be trimmed out at the new exposed edge, 1x2 or a piece of trim moulding that's 3/4" wide, and I'd definitely do 3/4 ply
HD will cut to size for you if you go in w/ dimensions needed.
