I am going to follow this post. I have the same issue. My Duncan actually had a hole in its side for a while. That has healed, and I have not found anything that may have been chewing on it, but it is pretty much still closed and shriveled. In this photo you can see the hole i. It

I've had them close for a couple days and now have no idea why. They opened a few days later. I think some coral just have off days

Just a guess, try to lessen your water change, check your ammonia and nitrites of course but maybe let the nitrates rise just a bit? Do you target feed? I have a hard time keeping any coral because my nitrates are always almost close to 0, that is why I'm saying that.

ammonia is stays at 0 as well as nirite, but you think nitrate should be higher than 15-20? i figured that was already high. yes i do target feed.

dang... that thing doesn't look very happy :[

I agree, what is your light like. Do you have any other corals and how are they. Your nitrates are high. Don't increase them. Mine are very low and mine are doing great

All other corals are doing fine. Been trying to get them down with WC every Sunday.

I wouldn't worry about nitrates. There are some well known wholesalers and retailers who have high nitrates and have great corals, ReefGen being one of them with nitrates at 50. So don't try to reduce them, esp. with the corals you have in your tank. There are two that people will say to lower nitrates for, but I've had cyphastrea, monti, tabling acros, acros, all kinds of SPS with a nitrate of 25 or higher. Make sure you watch you PO4 levels too.
How long has your tank been running?
