So I have done lots of concrete work in my life and I have never seen a hydraulic cement crack as bad as this one. 24hrs after the cement was placed it cracked in half. 2 hours after apply the nyos cement my structure was sound. Has anyone had this problem before?

Fixed half with the nyos reef cement 2 hours rock was set. Ran out of reef cement off to the wholesalers tomorrow.

I’ve used it 4 years ago to create a hanging Tonga branch around 5lb, and other structures. Everything it is still holding up. I am not questioning your cement construction skills, but perhaps there was a user error, or you’ve used too little of the cement for what you’re trying to do.

Man I wish I could say it was user error but even after I used it at different consistencies the stuff still crumbled in my hands. I think it might have been a bad batch of solution. I watched a bunch of videos on this stuff. Mine never seemed to harden fully. Even filling a 2 inch gap from rock to rock it broke in half.

I think a two inch gap with nothing but the cement is going to fail no matter what adhesive you use, from my understanding this stuff is designed to secure edges together not make edges

You did something wrong. This stuff cures stronger than the original rock. Cures solid in 24hrs.. after 2hrs it’s typically able to be moved But you gotta be very careful.

I have used this for shelf rock and seems to remain in good shape. Perhaps there are contaminants in the water that is interferring? Or maybe the mix is not as homogenous?

I love this stuff! I just used it on my scape. It is stronger than the rock itself.

I've used it in 4 tank structures. Never had issues. Ive even mixed it with plain water and still held strong.

Yeah I tried that it just crumbled in my hands.

That’s a bummer. One thing I noticed worked best when I used it... I wet the rocks a little first and make sure rocks fitted together well, I made sure they were held together with some plastic coated wire while the mortar set because the one time I didn’t, the rocks shifted and yes, it did crack because mortar wasn’t set. But it didn’t crumble.

I also worked slowly doing one joint at a time and letting it fully set before moving to the next. Took a week for full scape.

reading your build thread it looks like you are more than handy... so my guess is if it was crumbling after it set, you have a bad batch.

really this stuff is amazing and you should probably give it another chance if you can get it replaced. My tank cracked and I had to take my scape out and put in a brute to cycle. Luckinly I built it in a couple large pieces. They are strong as heck and not one joint gave way.

I just used it yesterday and found it amazing. I cantilevered a two foot solid piece of Tonga on top of a pedestal I built.

Yesterday I used some of my friends bucket to help him build his aquascape and the product worked as intended. Why my brand new bucket did not work I have no clue. His seemed hard enough to move in about 3 hours.

Sounds like you should ask for a replacement.
