I'm running 250w radiums and dosing Prodibio and Ozone. The ecc us in the frag tank though. Same water but under only 5" of water. So it's getting a ton of light.

Chris's water looks like air! Definitely one of the cleanest tanks I have seen out there.

Mine is the same as Ian when I got it almost 8 months ago and was really upset as its more brownish than red. well now it has double the size and the red color popped out ...

I've noticed that with some of my pieces, once they get bigger the colors are starting to come out more.
It seems like with some chalices it take a couple months for them to settle in, let alone grow and color up.

This is about the size when the red starts coming out. Under high light they grow fast but lose a bit of color. Low light they really color up for me. Hope this helps.

This mini Colony will be for sale this week.

a lot of chalice don't have their true color until it grows out a bit. I notice that a lot of the frag i get don't even look like the mother colony until you grow it out about the size of a quarter or bigger. I have seen the ECC hybrid mother colon and it looks very nice.

BuyTheReef, why is it that your site is unaccessable?

Also, what lighting is that under? Why does the one for sale look so different?

Does anyone know the difference beterrn this hybrid and "brians hybrid" on thats also out there?

My site is down for maintence.

It may be a different color based on lighting. I keep it in very high light to grow it out but the main colony was kept under pretty low light. I grow under 10k and it can wash the color out a pic. I also took the one for sale under 10k light.

Here's mine a while ago. It lost a lot of color when it was moved but it is coming back.

Ian, if it makes you feel any better, if you hold on for a bit longer, I think you'll see the colors come out. I got mine last October ('08) with 1 full eye and 1 small eye. The colors were identical to yours; I would have called it a muddy blue upon first receipt. After almost exactly one year, my frag has gone from about 1/2" to 2.5-3", and the colors are just getting better every month. There are now 13 eyes on it too. I was told that the colors would be sort of bland before I bought it, so I wasn't surprised, but it was hard waiting for it to color up. It really didn't start getting the red until it hit about 1.5-2", then I just started noticing hints of pink around the eyes, and then it began to spread. Also the eyes on mine are more yellow than green too, though they started out very green when I first got them. The more mature eyes seem to get more golden. Here is a pic of mine from July. Grew five new eyes around the rim in the month since that picture, and I'd guess about 1cm+ all round. Now I don't even think this picture does it justice.

To be fair as well, I have been finding this to be common with my watermelon chalices. The ECC hybrid was the first chalice I ever bought, but I have since traded for a number of other chalices, including other watermelons, and most of them show a lot of color development with growth/time.

here is a picture of it after I'd had it about 3-4 months.

And another when it had just begun to color up

Well those have to be the two best posts of this thread :D

I have lots to look forward to, it would seem.

Update. My frag is starting to show some red around the original, center eye!

I could post some updated pics of my colony. I am going to make some frags today.
