Eco live rock vs. natural live rock

There aree several factors,
They are not pulling it out of the ocean, that's good.
It won't have te variety of life, but also won't have bad hitchhikers, so that's a wash.
Not sure how pricing or availability compares.

That has been my plan. I only thing with man made is that there are no hidden gems or or hitch hikers. I had to real rocks with tube worms and now they are on all the rock. this is good for the reason they feed on all of the micro algae. I will be posting in two week the progress of my tank, I am really excited to see the whole reef in a year.

The natural does seed the fake rock. Eco wise it is good to buy man made rock. If you can buy rock from someone that is taking down their tank that is a good way to go. You are still helping the reefs by not buying new live rock and you get the benefits of fully cured rock. Make sure there are no aiptasia, mojanos, green bubble algae or any other unwanted pests/problems.

There is a huge variety in live rock as in how much variety comes on rock. Mixing live with non- live is fine . But I like to start nitrogen cycle with at least a little fresh live rock. I think you get more interesting critters. Then wait a little longer before adding fish to allow critters to multiply. You will be surprised at all the cool things that come with porous fresh live rock.

It is costly but I think it's gonna be worth it. The think the new led thing isn't as great as they make it out to be.

That's why I want the natural Fiji but I don't wanna think I am harming the oceans either. I will go with at least half natural live rock. Some places like liveaquaria.com have quit offering natural live rock completely, only the eco stuff.

The amount of live rock being pulled out of the ocean is very low now . Fiji rock is not live rock imho . It's boat rock and by the time it get here ,,well , It's dead rock .
If anyone says they are air shipping Fiji rock, it's simply not true. The price for man made live rock is pretty expensive . I see some uses for it but it just does not have the bio diversity of live rock . The only live rock coming into the US is actually air freighted from the point of origin (usually indonesia ) to LA then goes to a few select vendors. This is your true live rock . The algae color's, the fact that the rock is teeming with life far outweigh the minor pest if any . Yah use dead rock and create a tank only to get a frag that shows up with aiptaisa down the road . Kinda defeats the purpose .
Some of these areas are restricted on shipping live rock since it counts as coral . This is another reason there isn't so much coming into the country or other places .
If you are lucky enough to get a hold of some "true live rock " you will surely be glad you made that choice.
I just put some dead branch in my tank . I have always used some or all ( true live rock ) .My other half said "where is the purple,red ,yellow rock with all the critter's u usually get "

Where can you find some true live rock? I saw That Fish Place had some Indonesia rock, maybe they still have some. Idk

The only way to get truly live rock is if it's pulled out of the ocean in water, transferred to holding in water, and shipped to you in water via air freight same day.
There are very few places that do this and it's key to the survival of everything that makes it "live".
And it's worth every penny.
