I am running an Ecoray 60D over my frag area of the sump 12 inches over the water which is 12 inches deep, frag rack about 6 inches under water surface. The compact height and integral cooling fan were the main features that made this the right fixture for mounting under the stand. Both Acros and Montis are growing and keeping their color. In the past I have used a 150 watt metal halide pendant which contributed to the need to run a chiller, even with a reverse photoperiod.

I have modified the fixture to suit my needs. The optics that the fixture comes with are too narrow for my application. In its stock form, and at the distance I have it mounted, the center is a bit too hot for Monti Caps even on the bottom. Even for a 24 x 13 area at 12 inches over the water the edges were not lit well enough and the colors were still not completely blended. I ordered some new optics (so added 36 bucks to the cost) and they made a huge difference on coverage. Swapping them out is simple. Also, the 50/50 blue/white ratio was just too white for me, so I had the LFS replace 12 of the whites with royal blue for $1.50 each. The color now closely matches the spectrum I run over my display, which is about 1 to 1 to 1 Blue/Royal Blue/White. Also a simple job, but I though it better ask him do it to make sure it still worked before I left the store.

The LFS where I purchased them uses Ecoray fixtures exclusively over the coral tanks, both for sale and display. The fixtures over the coral for sale tanks are on moving rails. He has them quite a bit higher, enough to get the spread he wants and all his corals do just fine.

My fixture came with a separate power cord for the blue and whites but no timer is included.

I have the ecoray 60 over my 36 corner bow and I could not be happier. I also have their par38's to spot light, if you will, certain colonies and they are more than awesome for my needs.
