Ecotech Radion G4 XR30

I have a limited budget on this reef hobby but I do not like beinging a cheapo so I do go with best for my animals, I plan to have a euphyllia only 40 Gallon tank (Still with Fish and Inverts) and I was wondering if these lights are still worth it. I few questions about them I have are:
-Can they be mounted in a Canopy (I will have one)
-Are they noisy?
-Is the Cooling Effiecient
-Is the shimmer good? (Without the diffuser but I will get it if I have to.
- How much is needed? (Preferably two to minimize hotspots and get even spread.)
- Do they have mobuis?
- I might have another questions but I forgot.

I have recently done a fair bit of research for my new 75 gallon and can answer part of your question. If you are going with a 40 gallon of just about any shape you will only need a single XR15. I suppose you could go with an XR30 but it would be much more expensive than an XR15. I would think the primary factor in what you need for even coverage would be the size and shape of your tank. I did not own any Radion lights until a few days ago as I have been using Red Sea ReefLED’s on my current systems but they have left me wanting more And I was able to purchase 3 Gen4 XR15’s for my upcoming NUVO 75 EXT build.
 
Agree that the XR15 is probably better, but disagree that one would be sufficient. i would go with a pair of XR15Pro over a typical 40 gallon tank. They can be mounted in a canopy, XR15 are quieter than XR30 (though neither is noisy), cooling appears to work fine and shimmer is OK (and more a function of surface agitation anyhow). Gen4 Radions can be controlled by mobius …. i don't think quite yet, you'd have to check. Plus older units may require a chip swap.

+1 on the two xr15’s. They’re great lights. Shimmer is just right. I’ve never noticed any noise from any lights I’ve ever owned. If you wanted to save a bit of money, you could go with a single Ai hydra 32 over a 40g cube or 2 32’s over a 40 breeder. Euphyllia are relatively low light corals and don’t require tremendous amounts of par. I personally don’t think the radions will be worth the extra $$$ for your applications. If you’re planing on sticks, go for the radions.

Yes, they are worth it. But for Euphyllia on a 40.. over kill. You don’t need the power these lights put out for that type coral.
Yes, they can go in a canopy. Just have good ventilation and avoid moisture build up.
Fine cooling is fine as long as they can pull room air, again good ventilation.
The shimmer is a personal choice. Doesn’t bother most.
Not sure what you mean by how much is needed.
Mobius will work on the G4 in the near future. It’s in beta but they are getting to release it I think.

Radions produce a very nice spread and color spectrum for coral color and growth....most top LED companies do these days.

I have gone through my fair share of lights and ended up with radion xr30 g4 for my main tank...I also have a hydra 32 on a tank next to my main and a xr15 g4 on a 20gal long.

This is just my opinion but these lights are overkill for what you want in your tank...BUT they will give you color and growth out of your coral that you can't get with cheaper lights.

YES Euphyllia only need around 100 par to survive BUT can handle upwards of 300+ par if done slowly. Once they start getting par that high they start to change drastically.

Most of my euphyllia sit at 250-300 par, its a dominant euphyllia tank so there's like 15 torches and 10 hammers and octos. I just like the look and growth....do remember not all coral like high par so parts of the tank should be less for zoas and softies.

If I had a 40g breaker I would get 2 xr15 for the spread....

Absolutely you need 2x XR15's. I would do that over one XR30.

I have a 24" tank and one XR15 does have some shadowing, and the corals definitely lean towards the light rather than spread naturally in all directions. If I were to do it again, I'd get XR30 for a 24" tank, and larger use multiple XR15's spaced out evenly.

I just found that a radion g4 xr15w pro is the same as a g5 blue xr15
 
AI Prime 16 is another option for your tank. This is probably the best bang for your buck setup out there, especially since you want to go euphyllia heavy. AI & Ecotech are owned by the same parent company as well (Assuming, I do know they're related though) so the AI has a lot of the same tech.


As for your last question, the difference is the generation of the light, and that the G5 Blue comes set up for AB+ (more blue lighting).

They do? I never noticed it on my primes. I have one over a frag tank and a fuge. If the shimmer on the prime bothers you, shimmer on the xr15’s will be just as bad.

well unless you buy the diffuser for the XR15 thats an extra $45 they produce just as ugly disco effect. I would never run my XR15 without the diffusers because it looks like garbage

Nvm, I might go radions now, I have reasons but I.cannot be.bothered typing them but I found all these are the same price so what should I get?
- 2 Radion XR30 G4 (Regular, Not the Pro)
- 2 Radion XR15w Pros G4
- 2 Radion XR15 Gen 5 Blue
They are all the same price (somehow, I have found that here in Australia) bit which should I get. I do really like the puck style though, but that isn't important
 
2 Gen5 or sure. get little more coverage with them little extra power and they probably dont look like as much trash without the diffuser since the lens are already diffused some. plus the new diffusers are half the cost if you want them
