Ecotech radion or Reefbreeders?

I had one radion pro on my 60 cube for a year. The shadows it creates makes distinct color changes through the tank and the areas with shadows really have no light not a shade area like with a halide or t5.

I'm not a fan of the reefbreeders I think they are ugly. But if led is what you want I'd go with 2 reefbreeders for a more full light in the tank.

If I was spending money on a new light (which I did a little over a month ago)

I'd buy a t5 hybrid ati or pacsun it's the best lighting solution IMO

The ati (I bought the 24" 8 bulb fixture) is t5 with led

The pacsun is led with a little t5

DSP has the new g3 pro. I'm getting one too for my 93g cube. The coverage on the new model is impressive. I'm hanging mine with an AI EXT rail.

I just got the radion g3's for my 300dd and they are awesome you will love them I wish I would have got them sooner .

Longnose as a former AI Vega user, I had a big problem with shadows/shading. Even with two units over a 60G cube, one side of a green slimer would be bright green and happy, and the other side would be brown and just sad looking, same coral, same location, just depended on which side was facing the lights. I believe that with LED's spread and coverage is the hardest quantity to achieve such that you don't end up with a lot of shaded areas, which is basically what dashiki was saying.

I went back to T5 with LED supplements. Sure LED has some issues coloring up a few corals as many have stated (even vivid aquariums will show you how their Pink lemonade is yellow under halide and green under Radions), but it does a fantastic job on most (probably a spectrum issue). I would say the greatest drawback is the uneven light distribution, which is why most tanks over 24" wide use multiple fixtures.

My vote, go multiple reefbreeder fixtures, there is nothing wrong with the reefbreeders, they just aren't quite as polished and dont have the terrific customer service, but they grow coral as many tanks can attest. Good luck!

There are always pros and cons about any light.
#1 con Radion has is $$$$.
Well if you put it like that that's why you have Nissan and Audi.
If it is quality, look, appearance and Service that you looking for, with one word POP in your tank go with Radions.
With the Reeflink it's a beautiful tool on your tank even now that my four MP40's I think by Friday will be running through the Reeflink too.
With a click and swipe on your iPhone you can change your regular settings on to moonlight if some one ask and have all the modes on your pumps scheduled in no time.
I would shoot for the GEN3 with WAL's and you will be having a awesome tank.

Good luck making a decision.

Ecotech just bought out AI so technically its one company now

While the two have merged, it was made clear the two would still maintain a separate presence and "identity" within the market. I.E. Ecotech lights will be Ecotech lights and AI wil still be AI. However their R&D etc will be merging at least from what I have read. As for the light selection, I've read many different reviews and opinion on both lights. With a majority of them complementing build quality, customer service, and satisfaction. However, many negatives include price point, and the spectrum/use of lights within the fixture. Mostly with their selection of colors, and some of the technology within the light itself being older when their is newer available.

Honestly I've never owned either light but I've owned other products from AI and Ecotech. They are top of the line companies with great products. However I do feel their Radion and Hydra 52 are over priced for the light itself. What you're paying for is convenience, bells and whistles and the brand name. But to me, those things are worth the money. If bells and whistles, convenience, and a reputable brand name aren't high on your list of importance and you're simply looking for performance, perhaps look at TMC Aquarays. They are European and a little difficult to find but IMO they offer the best actual light for the money in terms of pure performance. Not to say Radions and Hydras don't perform, they do. They're excellent lights. But dollar for dollar on performance alone, there are better lights out there. However, many don't offer the functions/expandability/bells and whistles Radions or Hydras do.

I 100% agree tren. I've had off brand lights and just recently sold my AI sol to help fund my new tank build. I decided to go with the radion for the bells and whistles like you mentioned. Both companies have exceptional customer service. The main function that made me lean towards ecotech is the functionality of all of their products together. I have 3 vortechs I'm using on my new 93g build and being able to sync them all up is what pushed me over the top. I could have bought an apex with the modules for all of that but I have no problems with my reef keeper so I see no need to spend the $500 on an apex.

Thats what I've been told by Ecotech. Like I said, DSP has one on a 36" tank and it looks awesome. No shadows. I just dropped the 750 on a pro so if I need more than 1 I'll be upset. Read the manual for the new radion. It says at 9" it covers a 30" width and a depth of 36" i believe.

Ok awesome. I'm looking into both. Also what pump are you planning on using for your 93 gallon?

Are they twice as good reefbreeders because they are about twice the price?
