Ive been using these heaters. 2 of the 4 i have had stopped heating but the light is on. Feeling the tube its the same temp as tank water. I wonder whats up with this? Dry protection shut off? Any way to reset it?

I would suspect that the heating element has failed open. Voltage is making it to the light which I wouldn't expect if there were some shutoff applied.

I was told they stop heating well after a while due to corrosion on the heating element. I had two I pulled out of storage after 5 years, one was used less than a year. Neither would heat water much higher than room temperature.

The other part is that once a heater proves it's not reliable, replace it. The only exception I could see to that would be if the local controller failed and you have an additional controller - but even then. Jagers are $30. Good heater as any and better than most.

Ive had bad luck with eheim Heaters, but customer service was wonderful.

Story: one of my 200w heaters would constantly cycle on and off according to my apex power readings, reguardless of how high i set the manual tempature on the heater itself. I sent a screenshot to eheim and they offered to send me a new one for free. Even upgraded me to a 300w for free when i asked.
Unfortunately the 300w only ever draws 150w so i assume one of the two heating elements internally is bad! All well. At least the experience with customer service was easy!

Good luck

Well...you can try cycling power. How old are they...3 year warranty I believe?
One is 6 months old. The other is like 2 weeks old. 300 watt verions.

No didnt save receipts unfortunately. I expected they would last a year.

I wonder if the dry run shut off is thermally activated or has a water level sensor? Becaise the top 2 inches is above water. And they dont get much flow where they are.

Hmm. Good thought. Can you spread them out to different locations? Maybe that way the heat wont build up and trip each other? Or even turn one off and leave the other running. See if it will work then. At least worth testing out

From Eheim:

"To reset the heater simply turn it all the way down and then return the blue dial to your desired temperature."

I've had two of these heaters fail over the last decade. In both cases there was an observable break in the heating element wire, presumably from corrosion. One was under warranty and got replaced, the other was older.

They have dry shut off? There is a minimum waterline sticker on mine, and it's just over halfway down from the blue ring.

Yes apparently they do. I see the minumum water level line thanks for the heads up.

Did that work?

No it still doesnt heat. I noticed a little streamer of condensation coming in from the cap though. Nothing huge but enough to probably short circuit the heater. Garbage it goes.

If anyone needs to know the run dry sensor is thermal according to Eheim.

I was afraid of that. These were my first heaters and I was pretty sure that the light goes out if the run dry sensor is triggered.
Aquarium heaters shouldn't be this hard, but I am excited about the new line of BRS branded heaters. They are made by a very high quality European company. They will definitely be the next heaters I order.

I seen the titanium brs heaters. Those ones?

Yup. You need a controller (I use a Profilux) which I recommend using anyway for safety reasons. To my knowledge these are considered the highest quality aquarium heaters in Europe. BRS is having them rebranded with 120V plugs for sale in the US. Otherwise, they aren't available in the US.

Do a search for Schego aquarium heaters and read the reviews from Europe.
