If you read humblefish's thread around QT, he says nems only need 16.

Well, I would strongly disagree with that (grin).

I cannot fathom a reason where anemone tissue would remain infective for less than half the time as coral tissue. I know of the idea that ich tomonts reman infective longer under hypoxic conditions and supposedly coral skeletons contain those where anemones wouldn’t but that is over extrapolation. That would mean that tomonts can actively navigate into hypoxic areas and hide there….

And then, there are other diseases than just ich, so 16 days is just not long enough.

Wait! Anemones need 45 days as well, they are full of water from the source tank so commonly act as disease vectors. Remember, ich isn’t the only disease that can be carried from tank to tank.

Hi jay, i have few fish in my new tank already without quarantine any of them cuz i don't know it's so important to us to avoid the harmful disease. do i need to have a quarantine tank for all my fishs? also, there are about 15 coral frags in the tank too without quarantine. lmk thanks!!!

Yeah, I’ve seen that chart and do not agree at all. 30 days minimum isolation for anything wet, 45 days is safer.

Hi jay, i have few fish in my new tank already without quarantine any of them cuz i don't know it's so important to us to avoid the harmful disease. do i need to have a quarantine tank for all my fishs? also, there are about 15 coral frags in the tank too without quarantine. lmk thanks!!!

I always suggest a full quarantine for new fish (the process is listed the the sticky notes at the top of this section)
Buying pre quarantined fish from a vendor would be next best.

As I said, he is only considering ich tomonts and there are many other diseases that need to be dealt with. Even with ich, his chart is flawed - he lists starfish as just needing a rinse but then says another related species, sea cucumbers need 45 days - that is incongruous to say the least.
Then, why is it safe to just rinse a starfish with seawater, but tank tools and your hands are known vectors that have to be sterilized before moving them tank to tank?

In all serious to the OP both are professionals and have their own opinions, very common to have differing , I like to take advice from both and do what works/makes the most sense

Im going to leave the thread - The bottom line - trust who you want to trust - Humblefish or here - This is not a negative - but debating one or the other is not fruitful. If you want disease info and go to Humblefish (who is a very knowegable person) - great - but second opinions in this hobby (imho) - result in debate and confusion for everyone. hope everything goes well
