Was told this coral is very endangered and super rare. What is it?
@ISpeakForTheSeas

You should *cough* *cough* grab me a *cough* frag *cough* What, who said that?
I mean a case could be made that the hobby could be a way to help save endangered corals.

Corals aren't my strong suit yet, but Pillar Coral would be my first thought as well.
Do you know what the tan colored plating coral is above the probably pillars is?

I also see a relatively small stick of Fire coral near the bottom, and I think a clearly dead old pillar near the bottom, and enough algae to encourage me that I am going in the right direction, currently :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: :cool: ?

I don’t know what it is but I think this is the same type:

It’s Montastrea dactis

I would guess Mountainous Star Coral, Orbicella faveolata.
Thank you!
Whoops I just completely misread this. In my defense they are all called star corals :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Interestingly enough, there is a similar coral in the op's picture near the bottom of the image, although I was asking about the coral immediately above the Pillars.

And I still love the algaes growing everywhere!

Thanks to both of you for helping with likely ID's from images, not always the easiest task to accomplish especially with corals. :cool:

All the corals I’ve seen here are on this guide:

Mycetophyllia coral would be cool to see in the hobby. Like a chalice but more interesting
