Ever considered torching your tank?

Love my torches! They stand up to more flow and lighting so I don't have as many issues due to SPS on top.

My best grower is the holy grail in the center, also have the hellfire, blue-tipped Indo ultra, and a dragon soul. Although the green one is just a generic green one, it's one of my brightest!

I'm trying to be a responsible reefer and learn from previous tanks now that I have a huge tank and sump. Failed miserably on prior tanks trying to rush to beauty and this time I'm playing the patience game. Tank is only 4 months old and diatoms just finally left on their own with no intervention other than blowing the rocks with turkey baster and a good team of snails and algae grazers along with water changes. Have a couple of small leather frags and 3 small zoa frags on a rack for now.

I'll join the big kids later after my tank is more mature on its own.

The Aussie green tip has been with me for about a year. It’s actually in a relatively high light section pretty high up on the rock. It’s been there since day one and has been splitting for awhile. The gold and green torch is a new addition.

I love them but ... so do my clowns. My lone survivor is a three-headed green torch that has hosted them. Its 'reward' is all sorts of lumpy and fat tentacles due to their nipping. Theoretically I'd want more in the tank but the clowns will find as many hosts as they want and torches seem high on their list!
Your clowns will likely kill the torch over time - i've had my clowns kill a couple - took out the torches now they are happy in a giant Goni - with no issues. Just keep an eye

They are so aggressive though. A big torch is killing a small hammer frag in my tank. :(

Related, what's the final verdict if torch can touch hammer/frogspawn?
I keep torch with torch and 3-4" away from other coral including euphyllia

Yep collecting a lot of Euphy but torches for the win. And yes, I keep my torches away from everything but torches. Pretty sure a torch did some damage to a cristata torch so maybe not all torches together. Here's a few of many.

I have three: Hellfire, Bizarro and Indo Gold. They are isolated from the other corals on the lower side of my tank. Two of them came from my previous 13.5 and were in my 200G2 from day 1. I added the Indo Gold about a month into my 200G2. It has been running just over 6 months. They all seem to be doing well. I have found they they seem to like a very random flow throughout the day in my setup. I have a Nero 3 fairly close by just for them primarily for flow for them. I also have Frogspawn and Hammers higher up and in another part of the tank.

Have an Indo gold and a Rasta. Both look great. Hard to photo under blue. Best at making motion in my opinion.

I have 3, a Dragon Soul and NY Knicks on the sand bed in lower light and fairly steady flow and this Indo Gold up higher that has much better color.

I've been an SPS guy for years. I recently picked up a CC 21 Tails from Jason Fox as an impulse buy, and now I'm planning a torch garden as a centerpiece in my new tank.

Sooner or later we fall in love with a torch coral and will consider or acquire one for out collection. These corals can be easy to care for or be challenging to even the most experienced hobbyist. Like most Euphyllia coral, they have certain requirements and often for torch, location is best where it receives both medium light and water flow. You want there current in a state where it looks like leaves blowing in the wind. Too much current and you risk tearing their polyps off the skeleton known as polyp bailout. Poly Recession often occurs with too little light or water flow at times. These corals come in many colors and variety and can add great color and growth often splitting right before your eyes,

Do you own a torch and what kind?
What are your personal care requirements for your torch coral?
What can you share with others about torch coral care and what are your challenges?
Feel free to post pics

Torches were one of the first two corals I got before I knew anything about reefing… they are going strong and happy a year later

I got this torch as one of my first corals. It’s probably my favorite. Whenever it quit acting torch like I knew something was wrong with my parameters.

Surprisingly, I splurged on a basic green tip/red torch 6 months ago..as I really wanted one...he's not too far from the base of the rock, loves the flow, expands and shrinks throughout the day, but Is overall very happy and loves his spot....goes to sleep around 10:30pm. I spent $65.00 on him, was worried because of all said issues on R2R, but he's been one the best and easiest to care for corals and euphyllias ever. My hammer is doing great also, 1 year old, my Frogspawn is trying to extend its stingers over 10" and sting anything remotely close, but just recently, was fine for 6 months... my Torch doesn't bother anyone and never extend its stinger....and with all the exorbitant prices on crazy holy grail torches, I'm super happy with mine...I'll post a pic tomorrow when he's awake and happy!

Very happy with it!
