This is a very old Wetside you have there. The newer ones would have a newer magnet / design. Did you buy the pump used? How old is it?

No it was new when i purchased it. I believe its a gen2 wetside. how old is it... I don't remember I own 7 of these of various configurations 10,40,65 I just have never seen one fail like this. I have seen the bearing crack or the plastic crack but never seen a magnet split like this

Ive always kept them clean and rebuilt them as needed. i had this open not long back and it looked nothing like this... still nice and black and looking like a magnet

It can happen but it shouldn't harm your corals or fish.
Had the same thing happen to me.
The vortechs are made pretty high tech as Copper is not used on the wet side of the pump.
The plastics are ABS an the magnets are Neodymium.

Agreed. just had never seen nor heard of this particular failure before

I actually had some spare parts laying around so i rebuilt it. I just watched your MACNA video on Prodibio last night. Do you have a write up on what and how you use it. I was interested in which elements you were actually using. I did get that you use it twice a month but wasnt sure how many of thediffrent ingredients you actually used seemed like you may have only used 4 of the elements but wasn't sure

Yes! I bought two when they first came out and both split like that. I've upgraded them both to wireless and new wetsides... still had one of the new magnets split. :/ sucks for how much money I have in them... I've still got them both running, but bought a gyre and it makes the mp40's look stupid. Once I have the money for another gyre the 2 mp40's are coming out... :/

although I appreciate the enthusiasm, I have read a LOT of threads about the Maxspect and can tell you the cable rot thing makes it an absolute AVOID at all costs product for me. Glad they work for you though

Either way theres a flaw on everything but the brown gew leaching out after a year ,evertime i would take oyt to clean , all you need is one gyre , but i just ordered the wavs hopefuly they dont melt and rot away in my tank =)

That issue has been addressed, Gyres sold now have a different cable.

oh I totally agree. Everything has a weak point. Although I haven't had a Vortech do what this one did, I have had other issues but mostly with the wetside. Luckily they are fairly cheap and easy to come by.

I certainly hope so. It was one of those things where you are like "how the heck did this make it past quality control" type issues. Cable rot....in the water....exposing electrical lines.....what could possibly go wrong?

I will say the water movement is stellar on those things though
