Everlasting diatoms….. I think

Could be lack of nutrients
I recently had a diatom outbreak and assumed it was from using reef roids and having too much nutrients in my water. So they're from not having enough nutrients? I'm very new to the saltwater world so forgive my ignorance here

After bringing my nutrients up my problem went away. And all of my softies appreciated as well. Tank is doing great. I am unable to explain the science behind it but hopefully someone will chime in.

If your nitrates and phosphates are 0 it can cause a bloom

They're definitely not at zero ( i'm so bad at this ). I'm currently working my phosphates down from low 20's and my nitrates are around 10 ppm. Could it be the reef roids I recently started using? That's the only change I can connect with this outbreak.

So phosphates are at .20? Nitrate at 10 isn’t bad .20 on PO4 is high but yes reef roids tend to raise PO4
