Me personally would get a new tank. You should have drilled holes, used gaskets and bulk heads or a hob overflow.

I would silicone a piece of glass over your existing cutout. drill an overflow hole in one of the corners. Buy a glass holes (or similar) overflow box and your good. you'll be left will an ugly spot where the old cutout is, but you'll have a much more reliable overflow.

Or do a coast to coast. drill two holes and attach the inside box with bulkheads and you can leave the existing cutout. the box would hide the cutout too.

Using the rtv 108 as he did I know of 4 sumps still holding after 5+ years on one 3+ on another and 2 40b sumps on my cousins and my personal tank going on a year.

The momentive rtv seems to hold great. I have never used anything else. The only ones I had fail, the baffles were cut to small and had to much of a gap between them and the glass.

I also used plenty of silicone on each seam and put a line on the glass where the baffle would set.

But to each there own. I personally feel that if you are comfortable with the seal job you did you should be fine.

I was curious about the product you mentioned _Alex_, the momentive rtv, because I had never seen it referenced before. I am in need of the exact same solution. So I contacted customer service at GE Bayer and asked. Their response was that "we do not make a product for aquariums or full exposure to underwater applications. Our sealants have mold and mildew inhibitors and would be toxic to sea life."

I was betting that this was the solution. Sadly no, but wanted to share what I found out with everyone.

I have never once seen anywhere on the momentive website or product tube itself it say anything about using a mold inhibitor

I can forward you their email I received. I didn't know anything about the product so I went to their website, still couldn't find the answers I was looking for so I contacted customer service.

But hey, just because it's not the manufacturers intended application doesn't mean it won't work because obviously from your experiences it is working sealant wise. It's not like all of us haven't experimented a time or two. However, have you noticed any anomalies in your livestock? I'm not even sure what signs a mold and mildew inhibitor would produce in livestock other than the obvious one of death. That's pretty clear cut... [emoji16]

No but I don't have an amazing reef at the moment either haha. But anemone, lps, and random few sps growing. Tank crashed little over a year ago lost most coral and a few fish. So just been in coast mode.

But no I haven't noticed anything that I would think being cause by the silicone.

I have a IM 38 that sprung a leak and I am search in desperation for a sealant solution for the acrylic/glass problem.

Sorry to hear that. Never tried fix a broke tank with it so no experience on that. But if you do a search for aquarium builders and what silicone they use. The momentive rtv came up the most I could find.
