Exact iDip Digital Water Testing

Feedback is important. George and Christian are very responsive. I put my values into aquatic log which converts ppm to dkh when it saved it. It also gives graphs and connects to your controller.

no offense taken what so ever. I feel like a complete idiot right now. I will try and re run the tests again tonight and see what results I get. Does anyone have a screen shot of all the tests they currently have? I can't take a screen shot right now since I can't connect to the unit being at work but I can snap a shot of the ones I bought. Maybe I am using the wrong tests..

Why does it say $4.99? Wait you have to buy each test?!

Is it really THAT much more convenient? You still have to dip each strip...

When will there ever be a sensor like PH for the Apex, where I can just leave it in the water and it monitors all the levels?

There likely never will be a single one for total alkalinity (since it is the sum of many things in the water), but the Mindstream comes very close, reading carbonate alkalinity and several other parameters. :)

It's a one time purchase. Considering the overall cost and the fact that all the logic is updatable via the app, its only an additional $25 (one pack of reagents) for all the tests we currently have. If you want continuous monitoring take a look at mindstream. They've made progress and said they may release in the spring. But your paying more than 2x the price for that and $30 a month for the slides. Very different approaches. Also mindstream is one tank, while this can do many.

Yes it is much more convenient than different methodologies foreach test, powders, liquids, color matching. There really is no comparison.

Wow, I just looked up the mindstream. Amazing. Will be looking forward to that!

It is a very cool technology. I hope they succeed. :)

Yes Mindstream is great. It will change what we know about our water. It's twice the price and is good for one tank at a time. This is not. You can use this anywhere on any water source (including new water, etc) There's a copper test too, not sure if it's in range of what we need though that is useful for QT. lots of differences between these two. Let's try and stay on the thread topic though. Mindstream has been discussed in plenty of places. This is the only major iDip thread I've found with Christian involved especially.

True, but it's also well worth folks understanding the competitive landscape before purchasing something substantial. :)

Fair point. I will try and put a comparative matrix together. I've been following both for some time. Unfortunately only one is currently available ;) just didn't want to see it devolve into a which one is better. They both will have pros and cons and serve different purpose. Hopefully I can illustrate it a bit clearer for reference.

Mindstream is ok. Spent a lot of time with their head engineer at MACNA. The device is huge.

There is a massive investment in the tech and has been a long time coming. The disc is what you buy every so many days depending on your aquarium.
It's still a long time before this comes to market. Pushed back to spring after saying December. As they did not raise enough money in their Kickstarter. This might foretell sales of the device.
The vast majority of reef keepers don't test their water. "They like to look at their tank and see if their is a problem"

I was a backer of the Mindstream and was excited to see it coming out (tentatively) in Spring 2016. I am also intrigued by the iDip as well. I just went to their webpage and saw it for $300. Where are people seeing the Saltwater test kits for $179?
