Hello everyone, this is a reefing community that I have been stalking for awhile now but have just now decided to take the plunge. I hope that I am able to contribute with mistakes and experience down the road.

I have had 3 tanks, 45g freshwater, 55g saltwater FOWLR, and an 80g LPS. None have been too successful, and I ended up draining and selling everything about 5 years ago. I always knew that I wanted to get back into reefing eventually, and this time I am planning on doing my research beforehand. I feel much better prepared after watching nearly every BRStv video on youtube.

The plan: When my wife and I move into our a new home (and new state) next year, I am thinking I will set up a 60g cube LPS with 1 Kessil a360we with the largest sump I can fit under there, maybe a 30g. I would like as "natural" as a set up as I can get, so I was thinking I would maximize refugium size (ultra low maintenance is appealing to me) with chaeto and a Kessil h160 or another refugium light. I will also probably have to add a carbon reactor and protein skimmer, but those will both likely be external.

The ultimate plan: If we ever move into a house with some extra space, I would love to upgrade to a 120g or 160g, transform the 60g into a display refugium and keep or upgrade the sump underneath. I would get 2 additional a360we's for the 120g display for a total of 3 and buy a different light for the display fuge.

Sorry for the long introductory post. I'm not sure how much traffic these posts get so I don't know if anyone will go through the trouble of reading all of it. If anyone does, I would love some feedback. As a bystander, I am in love with the 100% LED tanks. I have read countless threads of people recommending hybrid set-ups, so I understand the controversy. There are also those who have had a lot of success with only LED reefs. Maybe I'm just being naive. Also would love feedback on whether or not my filtration will be adequate. Is there anything I'm not thinking of?

Thank you to anyone who read this far. Can't wait to dive back in.

Hey bud ! Welcome! I’m wanting to do a fowlr with either my 20 long or 40 breeder. Because I really need puffer fish in my life.. but for some reason I’m intimidated about the concept of both freshwater and fowlr. For some reason my mind is convinced they’ll be harder ! Pics of your tanks as of recent ?

Welcome aboard! Feel free to ask any questions you might have. There are a lot of folks here with a wealth of info that can help you. Many of them specialize in one area or another and they give freely of their time and experience.

Again, welcome!
