Welcome to the forum. I am trying to run a more natural system as well. I am using LEDs for the first time and so far I like the look. I used Metal Halide in the past.

Hey bud ! Welcome! I’m wanting to do a fowlr with either my 20 long or 40 breeder. Because I really need puffer fish in my life.. but for some reason I’m intimidated about the concept of both freshwater and fowlr. For some reason my mind is convinced they’ll be harder ! Pics of your tanks as of recent ?

Hi, thanks for the welcome. When I did FOWLR freshwater, it was primarily an aggressive / African Cichlids tank. I was young, only 14-16 years old at the time and I did ZERO research. I am sure you will have much more success than I did. From what I remember, a FOWLR freshwater was much easier than a FOWLR saltwater. A lot of that had to do with my fish selection, they were very hardy fish. However, I do not feel like I can adequately give you too much advice as I was very young and inexperienced at that time. A puffer sounds awesome but from what I remember, it was more of a solitary fish. Not sure if it will do well in a group. Happy reefing! Give me some updates if you decide to do it.

Welcome aboard! Feel free to ask any questions you might have. There are a lot of folks here with a wealth of info that can help you. Many of them specialize in one area or another and they give freely of their time and experience.

Again, welcome!

Elizabeth

That is great advice, can't wait to tap into this new resource. Such a wealth of free information! Thanks for the warm welcome.

Howdy. Sounds like a good setup. The more natural you go the better the results (if you can wait out the new tank syndrome stuff). I have 7 kessil 360's over my tank. LPS, SPS and some fancy Macro Algae. I also have some good old hair algae and a few bubble algae. Its all good.

My first tank was a 10 gallon saltwater 25 years ago. then i had a 40 gallon saltwater, which all ended with a bb gun incident. i did freshwater cichlids for awile after that. i always had more trouble with freshwater for some reason. probably because i had sand in the bottom and disturbed it too often. but i eventually figured it out and the tangenyika cichlids started breeding. :)

That's awesome. How far apart are you spacing your kessils? Thanks for the info

Hey @Salty Swimmer ! I LOVE the profile pic. I imagine you and I will nerd out on some things while we're here on R2R. For instance how about that King of the Monsters trailer!!!! ;Woot

Our tanks even sound very similar. I'm no where near ready either, though, so I can't help in the way of experience. I'll be going dual A160's on my 60 gallon. I'd go the single A360 route if my tank permitted, but it's an oddball of a thing.

The tank is 5 x 5 x 3 feet deep. They are spaced aprox 12 inches apart and 16" from the edges. Im still needed 2 more to finish the grid.

Awesome advice. Just watched the BRS video on cycling your tank and the advice pretty much lines up. It will be tough to be patient but I will definitely do it. Thanks

It looks so sick! I loving nerding out over movies and reading alike. We’ll have to update each other on the progression of our LED tanks. I am also considering the radion xr15 but we’ll see. Look forward to hearing about your tanks progress!
