FarmerTy's 215-gallon SPS Tank

My prayers for all the Texas friends out there !

Well we just had a -30F day yesterday in Minnesota ! But fortunately we are equipped to handle it anything upto -60 I believe .

So I can imagine what it’s like when the city is not equipped to handle low temps ... God speed my friends !!!

No way! Interested in everything this system is involved with. It also reminds us that you are still Human after all. ;)

Ugh, here too. w
Was without power for 12 hours and it was 8 degrees this morning! 210g got down to 66 degrees and fish laying on sides gasping. Back up to 70 tank temp and fingers crossed. I hope your power holds Ty and other TX'ers! I had come to terms I'd lose it all but thank God the power came back on. Cycled hot water bottles in it about a dozen times. Supposed to still be rolling blackouts the next two days and 7 degrees predicted tonight here. I saw 3 for Austin!

26 hours and still counting. One of, if not the coldest night in Houston’s history and half the citizens don’t have power. Unbelievable

Oh boy, I definitely have my share of weekly mistakes.

So far so good, one of the lucky few that still has power. I told my wife they must have felt sorry for our portion of the grid being out 17hrs already when it all started that they spared us so far this round.

I’m basically just running a little actinic support lighting on a shortened schedule so reduce my electrical use to not stress the grid too much so they can get it back on for the many Texans who haven’t had power for over 20+ hours in single digit temps.

I have everything ready to go when/if the rolling blackouts come my way. Generator filled, extra gas cans, all my life support items on a single eb832 so I can plug it directly into the generator, and plenty of extra water made just in case my pipes burst. Here’s hoping I don’t have to do any of that.

Hang in there Todd! I’m glad your power came back on! Hopefully it stays on and they decided against the blackouts since it was a mess in execution on Sunday.

Hang in there bud. Thank goodness you have that generator going.
Wow! You guys are definitely in my thoughts. Absolutely crazy weather...
Thank you Bill! It’s been insane and we got another ice storm coming tonight it seems.

I’m so lucky mine is big enough to run the tanks and heat the house at the same time

Oh I’ve been seriously looking and this event isn’t over yet.
Our house is pretty small and I was quoted 12k for a standby install. No way. This one is less than 2k and you can get a relay switch and natural gas, gas, or propane attachments installed for a lot less. You just have to be home and manually switch it over yourself.

Maybe I need to look into that as well. Had another reefer buddy send me almost the same ideas. Got me thinking.

I've lost power all too often up here and a standby was really the only good option...

Runs the whole house and I didn't have to pay for it ;)
Well sure
That’s a no brainer if you don’t have to pay for it
